World Wetlands Day 2021: Agreement signed to enhance climate resilience of natural ecosystem
The World Wetlands Day, annually observed on 2 February, was marked, today, with the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security and the European Union (EU) for the Mauritius Ridge to Reef project at Pointe D’Esny Wetland Ramsar Site of International importance.
On that occasion, the EU also signed an agreement with the Mauritius Wildlife Foundation and another agreement with the Reef Conservation.
The Ridge to Reef project has as objective to enhance the climate resilience of natural ecosystem and increase carbon sequestration, preserve the endemic biodiversity and improve food security. It will span over five years and the estimated cost is at 4.5 million Euros. The EU will provide a financial support of 4 million Euros and the remaining amount will be covered by Government.
