Wigan smash SEVEN past Hull in incredible first-half to ease relegation fears amid 12-point administration deduction and deepen Tigers’ woe

Wigan took a giant step towards securing their Championship future after an incredible first-half against Hull on Tuesday night.

The Latics, facing the prospect of a 12-point deduction after entering administration, scored seven unanswered goals before half-time at the DW Stadium against a sorry Hull.

Kal Naismith, Jamal Lowe and Joe Williams all got on the scoresheet in an extraordinary opening 45 minutes, while Keiffer Moore and Kieran Dowell also got in on the act with a pair of braces.

Unless the Tigers mount a spectacular fightback in the second period, Wigan are now in a position where they are outside of the relegation zone even with the 12-point deduction added.

And they are outside of it only on goal difference – ahead of Hull.

Wigan led after little more than a minute through Naismith but after the first-half drinks break, they stormed through the gears.

Moore and Dowell struck twice apiece with Lowe and Williams also on target to send the Tigers a step closer to League One.

Hull are now on course for a fourth successive defeat and occupy the final relegation spot in the Championship table.

Earlier this month Wigan became the first club to be placed in administration since the coronavirus pandemic began.

They have been informed by the Football League that a sanction that will be applied at the end of the campaign if they finish outside of the bottom three.

Should they be automatically relegated, the sanction would be imposed in the 2020-21 campaign.
