GIS – 10 June, 2019: The Vice President of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Wang Chen, paid a courtesy call yesterday on the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.
In a statement to the press, Mr Chen stated that the meeting with the Prime Minister was cordial and deliberations were fruitful. Prime Minister Jugnauth, he said, expressed the gratitude of the Mauritian Government to the People’s Republic of China for their support in the Chagos issue.
He thus reiterated that the People’s Republic of China will continue to assist Mauritius in terms of financial support regarding implementation of numerous infrastructural projects.
Following the courtesy call, Mr Chen had a working session with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mrs Santi Bai Hanoomanjee, during which both parties expressed their interest to further reinforce collaboration and tap avenues of cooperation for mutual benefits. The People’s Republic of China reiterates its support to the development of Mauritius and donated equipment to the tune of Rs 5 million to ensure that activities in the National Assembly take place in best conditions.
Mr Wang Chen is currently on a visit to Mauritius and is leading a 20-member delegation.
