We feel that we are hopeless now… it’s been so many years since we have made a request to the government of Mauritius to have an honorary consul here in Italy since we have so many Mauritian citizens here from north Italy to the south of Italy who have to go through so much hassle. for example, during the Covid-19 there were some Mauritians who wanted to be repatriated back as they were in distressed. It’s through the Embassy of Mauritius in Paris that all these procedures have to take place. It’s through strenuous efforts made that they were able to go back by sending so any mails and telephone calls. Also there was elderly person involved as well as minor, it’s not convenient for them they to send mail or afford to make telephone calls since its expensive to call to Paris.
Few days back a Mauritian citizen died in Milan and his wife wants the repatriation of the mortal remains back to Mauritius for the funeral… I had to send mail to the government of Mauritius to get clearance now have to wait for the answer from the Embassy in Paris, so inconvenient this situation is.
We all as individuals try to help our community through solidarity and through our own means and conditions that we can but it’s very onerous duty/ responsibility.
The minimum the government could do was to take this matter into consideration but we know its a waste of time if we are expecting anything from the government!
