Updates on road traffic and water accumulation

GIS – 22 January, 2020: The National Emergency Operations Command (NEOC) is monitoring the situation with regard to the heavy rain warning issued by the Mauritius Meteorological Services this morning. Several regions namely Cottage, La Croisette Grand-Baie, Rose-Hill, Bambous, Riche Lieu (NHDC), Terre-Rouge, Cité La Cure, La Tour Koenig, Bagatelle Baie-du-Tombeau and Beau-Bassin, have witnessed water accumulations and necessary actions are being undertaken by relevant authorities.

As at now, the road from Belle Vue Bridge to Albion Light House is closed to traffic until further notice. A team of the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service is currently on spot and is working to mitigate the consequences of water accumulations.

The Abattoir Road in Port-Louis which was closed due to water accumulation is now open. Several road diversions by the Police Traffic Branch to ease the flow of traffic and ensure the security of motorists and pedestrians.

The NEOC

The NEOC has been established within the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre and is activated whenever a disaster or any other major crisis becomes imminent. The NEOC is a multi-agency, comprising representatives from Ministries/Departments, other emergency services, NGO’s and Private Sectors.
