This is a request to the authorities concerned in Mauritius to take into consideration the dire situation of Mauritian students within different parts of India, these include Delhi, Chandigarh, Gwalior, Gujrat, Varanasi, Chennai, Bangalore, Tamil Nadu, Andrapradesh, Agra on behalf of all students in India
Students are facing anxious and stressful situations whereby they are being asked to vacate their respective hostels namely in Delhi (Jamia Millia Islamia), Gujrat and Chandigarh. Classes are not expected to resume in the near future in institutions in the regions aforementioned hence students are being asked to vacate the premises. Also some institutions might be transformed into quarantine facilities in the future. These students do not have other arrangements to stay at, they cannot even afford to stay at a rented place or a hotel which would put them at a higher risk. Repatriation is the safest option for these distressed students right now. There is a growing uncertainty concerning examinations as well as some institutions have not issued an official notice about the same. This is not only affecting the students but the parents as well who are aware of the situation in which their wards are living in.
Students have received official notices concerning examinations at Jamia Millia Islamiya(Delhi) that exams have been cancelled and they should vacate their hostels which will be converted into quarantine centers.
The COVID-19 cases are increasing day by day in India, putting these students who find themselves in red zone areas at a higher risk of contracting the virus. Also this situation has made it difficult for students to order in groceries and basic necessities into their hostels and place of residence respectively. Students staying at hostels have complained about the lack of sanitation and hygiene within the premises, as the hostel workers are not working especially in red zone areas. It should also be noted that there are students who are on scholarship while others are self-finance students.
Not all students are financially able to handle this situation.
