- Southampton request that Mike Dean and Lee Mason don’t referee their games
- The extraordinary demand reportedly comes after Saints’ 9-0 defeat vs United
- Dean controversially sent off Jan Bednarek and gave United a penalty
- Mason failed to give Hasenhuttl’s side a penalty against Aston Villa on Saturday
- Danny Ings also saw his equaliser ruled out against Villa for tightest of offsides
Southampton have reacted furiously to the roles played by Mike Dean and Lee Mason in their defeats to Manchester United and Aston Villa by ‘demanding the pair don’t referee their games in the near future’.
The Saints reportedly made the extraordinary request in the aftermath of their 9-0 hammering by United on Tuesday evening, that saw both Alexandre Jankewitz and Jan Bednarek sent off at Old Trafford.
Southampton were also livid with the role Mason played in their 1-0 defeat by Villa last Saturday, which saw them denied a clear penalty and have an injury-time equaliser ruled out by the tightest of offside margins.

As a result, the south coast club have demanded that the two referees are banned from officiating their matches in the near future, according to Radio Solent.
While Southampton will have no issues with Jankewitz red card for his horror tackle on Scott McTominay, Ralph Hasenhuttl was furious to see his centre-back Bednarek red-carded for an accidental foul on Anthony Martial.
