A huge payday for sacked Watford boss Nigel Pearson has been added to the huge list of factors riding on the Hornet’s final-day clash with Arsenal.
The 56-year-old’s sacking stunned the Premier League on Sunday as Sportsmail revealed Pearson’s dismissal followed an explosive row with Watford owner Gino Pozzo – who has sacked 10 managers in six years.
The disagreement came after the Hertfordshire side’s costly 3-1 collapse at West Ham before a 4-0 defeat to Manchester City plunged them into the bottom three with only one game to go.

Pearson admitted he was disappointed to be denied the chance to ‘finish the task I was brought in to achieve’, with U23s coach Hayden Mullins and goalkeeping coach Graham Stack set to take charge of the monumental clash with the Gunners.
The Englishman wished his old squad well for their remaining matches but now also has a financial incentive to do so, with Sky Sports confirming Pearson’s £1m survival bonus is not dependant on him being employed at the club.
Pearson was Watford’s third manager of the season after Javi Gracia was sacked in September, before Quique Sanchez Flores was jettisoned with the club lying 20th in December.

The Arsenal clash will be U23 boss Mullins’ fourth match as caretaker boss this season after taking charge of two games before Pearson’s appointment.
Pearson was lauded for his rapid turnaround at Watford, winning four of his first six league games in charge and later ending Liverpool’s 100 per cent record this season with an incredible 3-0 win.
