The Rose Ladies series had been put together by star golfer Justin Rose and his wife Kate, who put their name to a string of one-day events and invested their own money.

Rose himself is currently in San Francisco, where he is competing for golf’s first major of 2020.

The PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park opens a belated calendar for men’s professional golf, following its curtailment earlier in the year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Rose enjoyed a remarkable opening round on Thursday, carding 66 to sit four-under par, one shot adrift of the early leader Jason Day.
