Reunion Island (Men) and Maldives (Women) clinch gold medals in Table Tennis tournament

GIS – 21 July, 2019: The Men’s team of Reunion Island and the women’s team of the Maldives were crowned as the winners of the Table Tennis tournament held in the context of the Indian Ocean Islands Games 2019. The finals were held, today, at the Centre National de Tennis de Table in Beau Bassin.

Mauritius played against the Maldives for the women tournament while Reunion Island was pitted against Madagascar for the men’s tournament. The stadium was packed as Mauritians and delegates of participating countries gathered to support the teams. The Minister of Social Security was present on the occasion.

The Maldives Teams won against Mauritius on a score of 3-2 after an intense match. Mauritian player Wihaad Gukhool was defeated by Aishath Rafa Nazim on a last score of 6-11, 5-11, 12-10 and 11-13.   Mauritius was crowned the runner-up, with Madagascar in the third position and Reunion Island in the fourth place.

As for the men’s tournament, Reunion Island’s prolific players had an easy win against their Malagasy opponents , sealing victory on a score of 3-1. Madagascar was crowned the runner-up, Mauritius ended in third place and Seychelles in the fourth position.
