This was at the focus of discussions, yesterday, during a courtesy call by the Managing Director of SportAccord, on the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis, in presence of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Stephan Toussaint.
SportAccord which is based in Lausanne, Switzerland is the umbrella organisation for all (Olympic and non-Olympic) international sports federations as well as organisers of multi-sports games and sport-related international associations. It is an international sport organisation with 95 full members (international sports federations governing specific sports worldwide) and 20 associate members (organisations which conduct activities closely related to the international sports federations).
In a statement following the courtesy call, Mr Nis Hatt, spoke of the keen interest shown by Prime Minister Jugnauth regarding the role of SportAccord which according to the Prime Minister will bring a value-added to the sports sector in Mauritius. Mr Hatt, further observed that the regional meeting will serve as platform for the international sports federations to create networking with the local sports federations in Mauritius which, he added, will be an excellent opportunity for Mauritius to develop further the various sports disciplines.
