Republic of Mauritius- Induction programme for 35 newly recruited Social Security Officers

The Minister highlighted that the key objective of training programmes for employees of the Ministry is to improve service delivery and inculcate a culture of excellence as civil servants are the backbone for the implementation of all policy decisions.  According to her, the induction programme will fast–track the process of familiarisation, as well as enable them to be more productive, to further sharpen their skills, and to better integrate in their workplace.

Speaking about the core mission of the Ministry which is to provide assistance to the population, mostly vulnerable groups, Mrs Jeewa-Daureeawoo underpinned the crucial importance for public officers to deliver excellent services and improved customer care not only in a timely and efficient manner, but also with care and compassion.

Moreover, she pointed out that the era of information technology has transformed the concept of space and time, hence there is an increased pressure for the Ministry to deliver services more rapidly, in a more streamlined manner. This, Mrs Jeewa-Daureeawoo added, requires a paradigm shift with the adoption of innovative ideas and a smarter way of delivering services.

The Minister also reiterated the objective of Government to promote inclusive development to ensure economic development and social progress, as well as to improve the quality of life of all citizens. Key measures implemented with regards to favouring the inclusive development for all citizens include: the introduction of a minimum wage, the increase in basic pensions, and the introduction of negative income tax to alleviate the hardship faced by people who are most vulnerable, she added.

Social Security Officers

The 35 newly recruited Social Security Officers will have the responsibility of dealing directly with the public, through the local offices, hence the importance of focusing on efficient delivery of services and improved customer service.

The public has access to a wide range of services through the local offices of the Ministry. This includes application for all basic pensions, application for social aid, application for carer’s allowance and applications for the Social Register of Mauritius.
