Premier League players can once again eat in club canteens and mix freely after training sessions as strict Covid guidelines are lifted

  • Premier League players will be able to mix more freely after training sessions
  • Players had been prevented from doing so despite frequent Covid testing

Premier League players can eat together at their training grounds again after strict coronavirus curbs banning the use of canteens were lifted.

Clubs felt that with players tested at least twice a week and always following stringent protocols, preventing them from taking meals together was both unnecessary and counter-productive.

Sportsmail understands that after the matter was raised with the governing body last month, the rule has now been relaxed, meaning players can mix more freely after finishing their sessions.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo had revealed that his club would be contacting the Premier League to offer their thoughts, after questioning the canteen regulations when they were imposed in January in response to a spike in cases across the division.

‘If you close your canteen at your training ground, the player must go elsewhere to eat, so the risk of exposure can increase,’ Nuno said at the time.

‘We are tested almost every day. That is why we are going to go through the proper channels to express our opinion because now we are in a bubble.’
