Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will MISS Arsenal’s second visit to Southampton in four days

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will remain unavailable for Arsenal due to ‘personal family reasons’. 

The Gunners are set to face Southampton for the second time in four days, but will have to do so without their captain.

Aubameyang was also absent for Arsenal’s FA Cup defeat on Saturday, having pulled out of Mikel Arteta’s squad just hours before their clash at St Mary’s.

‘Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Will be unavailable for Tuesday’s match due to personal family reasons,’ a statement on Arsenal’s website read.

The details surrounding Aubameyang’s absence have not been declared but the Arsenal boss has made it clear he will give the 31-year-old all the time he needs.  

Arteta will be cursing his luck to be without the forward who appeared to be coming into form again by netting a brace against Newcastle United midweek having scored just once in his previous nine Premier League outings.

Aubameyang’s exclusion has also increased the pressure on Kieran Tierney’s return to the squad.

Tierney has been ruled out of action recently due to a calf injury. Arteta has have taken precautions to ensure the defender returns to full fitness sooner rather than later. 

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s game with Southampton, Arteta revealed that Tierney is currently being assessed.

He said: ‘Kieran is being assessed for discomfort in the right lower leg.’

It remains to be seen whether Tierney will be included in the Gunner squad that will. face Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men.
