Former Team Sky doctor Richard Freeman fails to attend opening day of medical tribunal into delivery of testosterone to the National Cycling Centre and barrister’s request for 48-hour adjournment is granted

Richard Freeman, the former Team Sky and British Cycling doctor facing the allegation that he ordered a banned drug for an athlete in 2011, failed to show at his medical hearing in Manchester this morning, with his legal team then successfully applying for a 48-hour adjournment.
At the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service tribunal Freemanâs legal team did however remain confident that he would appear for when the General Medical Council outline their case.
But Freemanâs absence was certainly consistent, having failed to show at a parliamentary hearing in 2017, citing mental health issues, and as a witness for former Great Britain cyclist Jess Varnish at her employment tribunal in December. Â

Freeman also failed to give evidence to an internal British Cycling investigation into the delivery of testosterone to the National Cycling Centre, preferring instead to resign his position as British team doctor in October 2017.
Representing Freeman is Mary OâRourke QC, who acted for Dr Eva Carneiro in her claim for constructive dismissal against Chelsea Football Club. She confirmed her legal fees were being paid by Freemanâs medical union.
Following an application by Freemanâs defence, the three-person tribunal panel agreed in private to adjourn the hearing for 48 hours and will reconvene at 9:30am on Friday. The chair indicated that there may be further applications made on Friday, which may also need to be heard in private.Â
The inquiry into Dr Freeman will cover 11 different accusations, including that he ordered 30 sachets of a testosterone gel to the Manchester Velodrome in 2011

Prior to the application for an adjournment, chair Stephen Mooney said: âThere are parts of this process which, on occasion, will be confidential. They could relate to an individualâs health. This is such an application.â
And after two and a half hours Mooney invited the media, the public and representatives from British Cycling and UK Anti-Doping back into the hearing room.
Mooney said: âThe reasons for the adjournment cannot be made public at this time. But I can say this, there is likely to be a further application on Friday morning which will involve legal argument and it is very likely to be held in private as well.â
Responding to the news a British Cycling spokesman said: âIt is in the public interest and in the best interests of the sport that the allegations against Dr Richard Freeman are heard and examined by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service. We continue to support the General Medical Councilâs work as historic questions need to be resolved.â

Le tracĂ© du Metro Express se situe partiellement sur notre piste pour lâapprentissage pratique. LâĂtat a pris le terrain depuis environ trois mois. Et bien que le terrain nous appartienne, nous ne pouvons y Ă©riger nos infrastructures.
Avec leurs opérations, il y a plein de terre, de poussiÚre entre autres. Nous avons dû louer un terrain à Réduit, non loin du centre de formation des instructeurs des motoécoles. Les élÚves trouvent que cette piste est plus accessible.
En mars, cela fera un an que les motoécoles sont en opération. Ont-elles fait changer les choses ?
Les moto-Ă©coles ne pourront rien changer car la loi nâa pas Ă©tĂ© mise en place pour les motocyclistes. Câest-Ă -dire quâil nâest pas obligatoire de passer par une moto-Ă©cole. Si tel Ă©tait le cas, tout le monde aurait accĂšs Ă la formation adĂ©quate pour conduire ce vĂ©hicule. La formation ellemĂȘme outille le conducteur contre les dangers de la route.
LâAdvance Institute of Motoring Ltd (AIM) a-t-elle pu atteindre ses objectifs en termes dâinscriptions et de rentabilitĂ© ?
Absolument pas ! Câest une catastrophe. Nous sommes vraiment en train de lutter pour sortir la tĂȘte de lâeau. Avec ce projet-lĂ , chaque Ă©cole devait avoir 1 000 inscriptions par annĂ©e. Le taux rĂ©el nâest que dâenviron 160 Ă 170.
Fondamentalement, pourquoi cela ne roule pas pour les moto-Ă©coles ?
LâAIM a dĂ©marrĂ© en mars 2018. Puis, lâArk Driving School a ouvert ses portes Ă BrisĂ©e-VerdiĂšre, suivie de la Professional Riding Ă Plaine-Magnien. Finalement, il y a plusieurs coĂ»ts dâopĂ©ration. Les trois Ă©coles disposaient dâenviron 24 formateurs. Et Ă combien sâĂ©lĂšvent vos pertes ?
Ă plus de Rs 300 000 par mois. Dans un an, câest plus de Rs 3 millions de pertes. Comme nous lâavons expliquĂ© au ministĂšre, nous ne pouvons plus nous le permettre. La fermeture de notre moto-Ă©cole est imminente. Nous sommes dans lâattente pour lâinstant. En fait, les Ă©lĂšves devaient recevoir des subsides de lâĂtat pour les inscriptions. Le ministĂšre travaille encore dessus.
Lâavenir est bien sombre. Nous avons beaucoup investi, notamment dans lâachat de terrain, des motocyclettes, dans la formation etc. Un des opĂ©rateurs a mĂȘme dĂ©boursĂ© Rs 14 millions et pourtant, il a Ă©tĂ© contraint de fermer aprĂšs quelques mois.
Un projet qui sâest finalement crashĂ© en routeâŠ
DĂ©finitivement, et nous avons des regrets. Nous avons Ă©tĂ© embobinĂ©s par lâĂtat. On nous avait dit que 300 000 personnes dĂ©tiennent des «learners», ce qui impliquait un millier dâĂ©lĂšves par an dans les moto-Ă©coles. On nâa mĂȘme pas dĂ©passĂ© la barre de 200.

Everton fan explains why he wants to lose to Manchester City at Liverpool’s expense

Everton host Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday night, with the latter knowing victory will see them move into first place.
Everton’s bitter rivals Liverpool are currently top of the table as they seek their first title triumph in 29 years.
In most circumstances, no fan ever wants to see their team lose but Everton diehard, OneFootball’s Elliott Bretland explains why he’s cheering on Pep Guardiola‘s men.
‘Do you work with Kopites? They’re ‘oribble,’ said one Blue, proudly wearing his Everton bobble hat in Liverpool city centre, as he explained to a perplexed reporter, so matter-of-fact, why he’s happy for his own team to lose against Manchester City on Wednesday night.
It may surprise you, but he’s far from alone. I and thousands of us are with him.
In yet another wasted, forgetful season for the blue half of Merseyside, some of us are willing to forego another three points to help stop Liverpool winning the Premier League title.
For once I will be happy to see Everton dejection at full-time when we play on Wednesday night
We host Manchester City in the Premier League and I want us to lose to boost their title hopes
Victory for City will see them leapfrog our bitter rivals Liverpool at the top of the table
Crazy as it sounds, there are bigger things at play here than Everton achieving a seventh, eighth or ninth-placed finish with 51 points as opposed to 48.
For one game only, as Everton’s season lies in ruins, over in January yet again, it’s time to take a hit for the greater good.
Some Blues are appalled by fellow Evertonians admitting they are keen to lose the game. I get that, in terms of football morals, it’s wrong. ‘You should always want your team to win, always,’ they insist.
But I’m sorry, with Everton’s season all but done, I can’t get on board with that outlook. Not this time.
Millwall in the FA Cup was the one we wanted, desperate to end our barren run. They let us down. This clash with City pales in significance.

A victory would be meaningless in the grand scheme of things for the season. Robbing three points from City’s title challenge would have far more disastrous repercussions for years to come, however. We would never hear the end of it.
By June, Liverpool will insist they invented football as we know it, demand the entire squad receive knighthoods for services to pressing high up the pitch and push for inclusion in the next World Cup. Unbearable.
As for the Reds who can’t get their head around it, they wouldn’t. How could they? They’re bigger than that.
I mean, they weren’t eager to lose to Kenny Dalglish’s Blackburn and hand them the title to stop Manchester United. Oh no. They were well against dropping points to Everton’s relegation rivals in ’94 and ’98 too. Of course…
We may have grown up in the same city but the two fanbases have had very different football experiences.

They’ve had success, they’ve had countless derbies go their way, they’ve been fortunate to benefit from the most bafflingly generous refereeing displays ever seen in derby football (Clive Thomas – no, I wasn’t even born then – Carragher on Lescott, Kuyt on Neville).
For as long as that continues, for as long as Everton continue to implode in the most believably unbelievable ways at Anfield, the bitter blue levels will continue to swell and seep out in the most glorious of ways.
Liverpool fluked the European Cup, lifted the FA Cup with Stephane Henchoz in goal and won the treble.
As Everton enter their longest barren run of 24 years without a pot (I will have supported them for 23 years and 9 months of that time) their longing for the title, which has remained so elusive, is the only crumb of consolation I have.
For all of their gloating, condescending smirks and claps at the television, shouts of ‘Demba Ba!’ while regaling Steven Gerrard’s costly slip still cut deep. May could end all of that. City are our only hope and we have to give them all of the help they can.
Until Everton’s fortunes change for the better, we’re working on scraps when it comes to even taking part in this rivalry in one of the world’s biggest footballing cities.
Pep Guardiola’s City side are the only team capable of derailing Liverpool bragging rights
No Blue wants to be in this situation, we want our own success, our own title charges, but here we are. If we can’t win our own fights this season, derailing the Reds is the next best thing.
The big one, the one we must win, when Evertonians will unite and turn Goodison into a ferocious bearpit is the Merseyside derby in March. That’s the one if we want to really stop Liverpool.
As for this evening, anyway, do we really have a say in the matter? Everton will no doubt roll over to Pep Guardiola’s slick attacking machine because we are a team out of form right now and lacking genuine quality to compete. We don’t have a choice.
If we do win, it will in no way surprise the pessimistic, self-deprecating section of our fanbase. Let us down again. ‘Everton that’.
We can’t really lose tonight, which makes a nice change from the last three decades.

Il faudrait rĂ©flĂ©chir et voir comment Air Mauritius pourrait essayer dâavoir un partenaire aĂ©rien stratĂ©gique, basĂ© en Chine, sur le long terme. Ă deux, ils seraient plus forts pour desservir et promouvoir la destination sur ce trĂšs grand marchĂ©. De plus, conjointement avec la Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority. Ils pourraient unir leurs forces pour promouvoir la destination. Cela Ă travers une campagne qui mettra lâaccent sur les services dont les Chinois souhaitent bĂ©nĂ©ficier et qui correspondent Ă leurs attentes. Il sâagit dâune restauration adaptĂ©e Ă leur mode de vie, dâun service de communication en langue chinoise que ce soit au niveau des brochures ou au niveau des Ă©changes avec les membres du personnel des hĂŽtels oĂč ils logent. Il faut un environnement propice afin quâils se sentent accompagnĂ©s, encadrĂ©s et en sĂ©curitĂ© durant leur sĂ©jour.
Certains observateurs reprochent au secteur touristique mauricien de ne pas ĂȘtre suffisamment Ă©quipĂ© pour inciter le touriste Ă dĂ©penser tout lâargent quâil a budgĂ©tĂ© pour son dĂ©placement. Est-ce un phĂ©nomĂšne auquel le secteur touristique est toujours confrontĂ© ?

Tributes have poured in for pioneering sports journalist Vikki Orvice after she lost her long battle with cancer.
Olympic champion Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill and former England and Manchester United footballer Gary Neville led tributes on social media to The Sun sports writer, Women In Football director and Football Writers’ Association stalwart.
Orvice, 56, was a trailblazer for female sports journalists, inspiring many into the profession after becoming the first female football writer appointment by a tabloid in 1995.

She later became the paper’s athletics correspondent, performing the role with distinction for 16 years. Before The Sun, she had worked at the Daily Mail as a sports and news reporter.
Her husband Ian Ridley tweeted the sad news on Wednesday morning, writing: ‘My beloved, bright, brilliant wife Vikki Orvice passed away at 5am, able to defy the cancer no longer.
‘I am bereft, empty, but grateful for her life and her love. Those who feel the breath of sadness, sit down next to me.’

A hero goalkeeper who missed the birth of his twin daughters to play in his side’s FA Cup triumph has spoken of how he feared she would ‘give hims some stick’ for not being present at their arrival. Â
Newport County player Joe Day was seen on live television running off the pitch after his side beat Middlesbrough 2-0, setting up a glamour tie with Manchester City and sending team-mates and fans into a frenzy.
The 28-year-old knew the birth was imminent but had his phone turned off during the win on Tuesday night.
And as soon as the final whistle went Day asked boss Michael Flynn if he could dash off to see his family – but he missed the births of the babies who arrived at 8.13pm and 8.35pm – during the first half of the tie at a hospital just two miles away.
On Wednesday, the exhausted new father said of his wife: ‘I thought I might get some stick but sheâs been great. Iâm just so proud of her and my two little girls.
‘I knew their birth was on the cards but I just had to shut everything out for the game.’Â

On Wednesday Newport County’s Disabled Supporters’ Association revealed what it said was an image of the newborn twins with the caption: ‘Congrats to our Keeper Joe Day and his wife Lizzie, their twin girls were born during our FA Cup replay last night.’Â
Day had missed his side’s first FA Cup match against Middlesbrough with the birth of the twins imminent. But after the drawn game he decided to feature in the replay 10 days later, despite his wife being long overdue.Â
After the game the goalkeeper ran over to manager Flynn, hugged his boss and was then ushered down the tunnel in a bid to make it to the hospital.Â
Speaking to BT Sport after the win, Flynn, when asked if Day was kept up to date, said: ‘Look, the professional that he is, he turned his phone off.Â
‘I didn’t hide it believe it or not. I didn’t hide it, he turned his phone off. As soon as the game was over and we won he said “gaffer thank you so much, can I go please?”

Social media users praised the goalkeeper’s dedication to his team, claiming it demonstrated ‘the magic of the cup’.
However one woman was not impressed, writing: ‘Wife’s expecting twins and he turned the phone off!?’Â
Newport’s players and supporters will be celebrating long into the night after adding Championship side Middlesbrough to their list of FA Cup giant-killings.Â
The League Two side dominated the visitors from start to finish on a difficult playing surface to set-up a home tie against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.Â
