Anthony Joshua close to confirming debut fight in USA against Jarrell Miller after Dillian Whyte talks fall through

  • Eddie Hearn hinted Anthony Joshua could be set for USA clash with Jarrell Miller
  • Fight could be scheduled for June in New York and would be Joshua’s US debut
  • Negotiations with Dillian Whyte over a rematch at Wembley have fallen through

James Ayles For Mailonline

Promoter Eddie Hearn has suggested that Anthony Joshua‘s USA debut against Jarrell Miller is close to be confirmed and could be held at Madison Square Garden.

Hearn is also keen to create a strong undercard featuring a number of bright British talent for the New York bout.

Potential fights against Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder will not happen until after the pair’s rematch, while Dillian Whyte has confirmed a rematch against Joshua will not happen.

‘Looking at the Miller fight,’ Hearn told Sky Sports News. ‘New York is something that we didn’t expect, but as we talk more about it, as we speak to great venues like Madison Square Garden, it’s starting to sound quite special.

‘Not just that fight, but also creating a weekend in June for British fight fans to remember for a long time. We’re stacking the card with major championship fights for the young British talent, for established British talent as well.

‘We’re not done with Jarrell Miller. We have deep talks progressing now. There is no deal yet, but right now, that looks like a strong possibility.’

Hearn also elaborated on Whyte’s next fight, likely to be in London in April.

‘April 20 looks like it could be Dillian Whyte at The O2 Arena, obviously if they don’t fight,’ said Hearn.

‘It could be Dillian on April 20, Joshua in New York. Still a long way to go. Plenty of twists and turns left.

‘There was a clock ticking for Wembley. I think we can rule that out of the equation right now, but June 1 is some weeks away, but obviously we want to get it announced.

‘AJ wants to know what he’s doing, and hopefully by end of this week, the weekend, we could be in a position to announce his next fight.’

Premier League trio to use Intel’s 360-degree True View replay technology

  • Three Premier League teams set to employ 3D 360-degree replay technology
  • Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City will use 38 5K cameras in their stadiums
  • The purpose according to supplier Intel is to offer more immersive content

Martyn Landi, Press Association

Three Premier League clubs are to install Intel technology at their stadiums that will enable fans to see match highlights through the eyes of players.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City will each place 38 5K ultra high definition cameras around their stadiums to take advantage of Intel’s True View, which will allow for 360-degree, 3D replays in and the ability to view replays from a player’s perspective.

The technology uses cameras that record not just images but also height, width and depth data to produce voxels – pixels with volume. This enables 3D, virtual scenes to be recreated, allowing users to view replays of key moments from any conceivable angle.

It will also enable the creation of 360-degree replays for fans and pundits to scrutinise.

Intel, which has already deployed the technology in the National Football League (NFL) and National Basketball Association (NBA) in the US, confirmed that the content from True View would be available to broadcasters during live matches as well as the clubs themselves on their own websites and social media channels.

Intel Sports vice president and general manager James Carwana said: ‘Immersive media experiences continue to create more opportunities for sports teams and leagues to put the fan experience first.

‘With the expansion of Intel True View into more stadiums with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City, we have the chance to transform the experience for fans of one of the world’s top sports leagues with our leading and differentiated volumetric technology.’

The technology giant added that the system was not intended to be an alternative to Video Assistant Referee (VAR), only a new way to offer ‘immersive’ content to fans.

Arsenal commercial director Peter Silverstone said the technology would give the club a new way to interact with its supporters.

‘The technology effectively allows a supporter to step into the boots of players and see the game from their perspective.

‘We have seen the impact this Intel technology has had in other sports leagues across the world and are excited that it will be installed at Emirates Stadium.’

Billy Hogan, Liverpool’s managing director and chief commercial officer, said using the technology would ‘add a new depth to match highlights’.

The system will be in place from March 10, Intel confirmed.

Damian Willoughby, senior vice president of partnerships at City Football Group said: ‘We love to be first, both on and off the pitch, so we are delighted to pioneer this game-changing technology at the Etihad Stadium.

‘We are sure City fans, and football fans around the world, will love watching beautiful football from every angle.’

FA chairman Greg Clarke set to learn whether he has won in his bid to become FIFA vice-president

FA chairman Greg Clarke set to learn whether he has won in his bid to become FIFA vice-president

  • FA chairman Greg Clarke and IFA president David Martin vying for FIFA post
  • The pair will learn on Thursday who has been appointed as vice-president
  • Martin has a colourful past having been forced to resign from IFA board in 2010

Mike Keegan For Mailonline

Greg Clarke will on Thursday learn whether he has seen off a challenge from across the Irish Sea to become Britain’s FIFA vice-president – and pick up $1m in the process.

The Football Association chairman is up against Northern Irishman David Martin – the IFA president – for the $250,000-a-year post with a ballot to be held on Thursday morning at Uefa’s congress in Rome.

Martin, 65, has a somewhat colourful past, having been forced to resign from the IFA in 2010 before failing three competency tests to get back on the board. He eventually did so in 2013, after the requirement was scrapped.

Sources close to Martin’s camp claim that his relationship with John Delaney, the influential chief executive of the Football Association of Ireland, could test Clarke’s bid to replace former incumbent and ex-Manchester United chief executive David Gill in the four-year position.

Delaney is known to have strong connections among the 55 Uefa associations who will vote, although a victory for Martin would still come as a substantial surprise.

Meanwhile, Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin fired what could be perceived as a warning to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain over alleged fresh breaches of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, released by Football Leaks.

Uefa are yet to decide whether to investigate but when asked by French newspaper Le Monde if each club was dealt with equally under FFP the Slovenian, who is seeking a second term, responded: ‘Everyone is treated the same way. I have no problem throwing out anyone. I am under no pressure.’

Elsewhere, Uefa’s Chief Refereeing Officer Roberto Rosetti has vowed to ensure that players seen making television signals in a bid to persuade officials to use VAR will be cautioned.

The Italian used Leicester defender Harry Maguire calling for a replay at England’s World Cup clash with Colombia after Jordan Henderson was headbutted.

Rosetti also used Marouane Fellaini’s late winner for Manchester United in their Champions League match with Young Boys Bern – which sparked Jose Mourinho’s famous launching of a crate of water bottles – as an example of a goal which should have been disallowed under VAR, as the Belgian clearly handled the ball in the build-up.

The controversial system will be used at the forthcoming Champions League knockout matches.

On an eventful day in the Italian capital, Uefa and the European Club Association signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding until 2024 which effectively staves off a Super League.

ECA chairman, Juventus president Andrea Agnelli described the decision as ‘an important moment in the history of European Football.’ The ECA’s clubs were allegedly examining the prospect of a breakaway league – according to details released by Football Leaks and published by German magazine Der Speigel.

On Wednesday, it also emerged that Gianni Infantino is set to serve a second term as Fifa president after being the only candidate entered in June’s election.

The 48-year-old, who succeeded Sepp Blatter, remarked that it was ‘a good day for football’ when he breezed through the lobby of Rome’s plush Cavalieri Hotel, which is hosting the congress.

Former Tottenham defender Ramon Vega had said he would stand against Infantino but failed to garner enough support.

During talks held earlier at the hotel, Uefa’s executive committee discussed a number of issues, including the future of the usage of the away goals rule.

Gregor Townsend set to select Sean Maitland over Blair Kinghorn for Scotland’s clash with Ireland

Gregor Townsend set to select experienced wing Sean Maitland over Blair Kinghorn for Scotland’s Six Nations clash at home to Ireland

  • Sean Maitland set to play instead of Blair Kinghorn against Ireland in Six Nations
  • Kinghorn made history with first hat-trick by a Scotland player in Six Nations
  • Townsend wants Maitland’s greater experience and defensive ability for clash

Rob Robertson For The Scottish Daily Mail

Sean Maitland is set for a shock Scotland recall in place of hat-trick hero Blair Kinghorn for the Six Nations showdown with Ireland.

Sportsmail understands the 30-year-old Saracens winger will start at Murrayfield on Saturday, provided he passes a late fitness test on the hamstring strain that kept him out of last weekend’s win over Italy.

Head coach Gregor Townsend has decided to opt for Maitland’s greater experience and superior defensive qualities, and is ready to give him the nod ahead of Edinburgh star Kinghorn, who made history against the Azzurri with the first hat-trick of tries scored by a Scot in the Six Nations.

Kinghorn, 22, will start on the bench against an Irish side eager to atone for last weekend’s home defeat to England and is expected to be used as an impact replacement later in the game.

New Zealand-born Maitland, who has 37 caps to his name, qualified to play for Scotland courtesy of his grandparents.

Fit-again Jonny Gray, who missed the Italy game with a shoulder injury, is set to take the place of Ben Toolis in the second row and will start alongside Grant Gilchrist.

Prop Simon Berghan will come in for W P Nel, who tore his calf muscle against Italy, with uncapped tighthead prop D’Arcy Rae of Glasgow Warriors coming onto the bench as cover.

Peter Horne, also absent from last weekend’s clash with a shoulder injury, is set to replace Adam Hastings on the bench and will cover at ten and the centre positions.

Hastings drops out of the match-day squad completely.
