Jurgen Klopp planning to sign defensive cover in summer as injuries threaten Liverpool’s title charge

  • Liverpool suffered injuries in defence during January but signed no players
  • Jurgen Klopp allowed Nathaniel Clyne to leave on loan to Bournemouth
  • Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all currently sidelined

James Ayles For Mailonline

Jurgen Klopp will prioritise defensive reinforcements in the summer as injuries at the back threaten to derail Liverpool’s title charge, according to The Sun.

The club are currently missing Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren and Trent Alexander-Arnold through injury, while right-back Nathaniel Clyne was allowed to join Bournemouth on loan.

That has left Klopp’s side short of cover at the back, with the German unable to make any additions in January.

This is in stark contrast to January 2018, when the club spent £75million on centre-back Virgil van Dijk, who has made a considerable impact.

In the absence of their injured players, van Dijk and Joel Matip are the only fit senior centre-backs in the squad.

Midfielders James Milner and Jordan Henderson have deputised at right-back over the last several games.

Draws against Leicester and West Ham have stalled Liverpool’s momentum, and Manchester City’s win over Everton on Wednesday ensured they regained top spot.

Liverpool next host Bournemouth on Saturday before turning their attention to the first leg of their Champions League last-16 with Bayern Munich at Anfield.

Tom Farmery For Mailonline

Ole Gunner Solskjaer is reportedly in pole position to land the Manchester United manager’s job on a full-time basis.

An £8million fee has already been agreed between United and Norwegian club Molde should he be offered the full-time job.

It is also reported that United chief executive Ed Woodward is concerned about not being able to lure Mauricio Pochettino from Tottenham.

It comes after former United striker Wayne Rooney said he would back Solskjaer to get the job, though he could see why Woodward would want Pochettino.

He told CNN: ‘It’d be nice to see Ole Gunnar continue with this form and get a shot at the job on a permanent basis.

‘But if not, if the club go to choose from somewhere else, then I think Pochettino would be the right guy.’

[ad_1]

Jenas turns up in a fish and chip shop to dissect Fulham’s performance with their fans, analysing the game as a battered fish – until he gets vinegar poured on his face!

‘I’ve commentated in a variety of situations but analysing a game as a battered fish has to top them!,’ the ex-Newcastle man said.

The advert features real supporters, some of which will be well-known to fans around the country.

Speaking about his role in the advert, United star Lingard said: ‘Surprising fans while they were being filmed and seeing their reaction was incredible! The fans really are what make the Premier League.

‘I wouldn’t be able to do what I do each week without them and so it’s great to be working with Coca-Cola to give more people the opportunity to get involved.’

Coca-Cola Great Britain has kicked off its partnership with the Premier League with the launch of a new campaign, Where Everyone Plays.

The campaign looks to bring fans closer to the magic of the Premier League, giving access to matchday experiences and will take the Premier League Trophy to people up and down the country.
