Jordi Cruyff insists Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the perfect manager for Manchester United

‘He is not saying something to see if he can motivate a player in a provocative way’: Jordi Cruyff insists Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the perfect manager for Manchester United and takes a swipe at Jose Mourinho’s scathing attacks

  • Jordi Cruyff believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is perfect for Manchester United
  • United are unbeaten since Solskjaer took over after Jose Mourinho’s sacking
  • Cruyff believes his former team-mate is the ideal fit to take the job full-time

Max Winters For Mailonline

Jordi Cruyff believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the perfect candidate to become the permanent Manchester United manager, insisting he knows the club’s ‘DNA’.

United are unbeaten since Solskjaer took over following Jose Mourinho‘s sacking, with the Norwegian guiding his side to an impressive nine wins from 10 games.

Cruyff, the son of football legend Johan and current manager of Chinese Super League side Chongqing Dangdai Lifan, believes his former team-mate is the ideal fit to take the job full-time.

He also took a swipe at Mourinho, claiming Solksjaer has not slammed the United players in public unlike the Portuguese did in his final few months.

‘Normally, players who have been at the club understand the DNA. [Pep] Guardiola was at Barcelona B, came to the first team, knew what was necessary and the results are obvious,’ Cruyff said in an interview with The Times.

‘In Ole’s case, he has let the players take responsibility. He’s peaceful. He’s not making conflicts in the media, saying something to see if he can motivate the player in a provocative way.

‘United’s DNA is winning, attacking, playing the same home and away, no waiting for the opponent. It’s about fitting with a club’s DNA.

‘There are a lot of great coaches who go to one place and are fantastic, and go to another place just as big and it doesn’t work out. It’s the fit. Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid — perfect fit.’

Cruyff spent four years at United between 1996 and 2000, chalking up 55 appearances for the Red Devils and sharing the pitch with the current caretaker manager.

‘As a person, Ole was always very calm, a family man. We knew each other well. As a player, Ole wasn’t super-fast, tall or a shielder. He just worked hard but he had an amazing instinct and ability to score goals,’ Cruyff added.

‘He had a ‘loose’ ankle, when somebody without looking knows where the goal is and can always find the corner. The only one I saw like that was [Jean-Pierre] Papin. Boom. The ball was in the net.

‘The most important thing was Ole never put his ego before the interests of the club. It doesn’t surprise me he’s become a coach. He’s a stable guy, a club man, and those kind of characters normally end up being coaches.’

Aymeric Laporte’s goal at Everton was 15th time Manchester City have scored with first shot on target this season… so, where does your team rank?

Daniel Matthews For Mailonline

Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League on Wednesday night — and their clinical finishing in front of goal has been at the heart of another brilliant campaign under Pep Guardiola.

City currently lead Liverpool on goal difference following their 2-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park, though the Reds have a game in hand on their rivals.

Aymeric Laporte and Gabriel Jesus scored in the dying moments of each half on Wednesday night to down Everton — and ensure City continued their incredible record in front of goal.

Laporte’s header was the first time the visitors had tested Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and as so often this season, it resulted in a goal.

City have scored with their first shot on target in 15 Premier League games this season — six more than any other side.

Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Manchester United and Watford are the next most clinical teams with nine, while Arsenal and Liverpool have scored with their first shot on target eight times.

Fulham have scored with their first shot on target three times - level only with Southampton

Fulham and Southampton, by contrast, have done it only three times — the joint worst in the division and one fewer than bottom side Huddersfield.

Everton failed to find a way past City stopper Ederson on Wednesday night but they have scored with their first shot on target in seven different matches this season.

But following defeat by City they sit ninth with only three wins coming in their last 13 league games.

Third Concertation Meeting on tuna supply and fishing activities

0

[ad_1]

GIS – 07 February, 2019: The third Concertation Meeting between the European Union (EU) Fishing Industry and the Indian Ocean Tuna Processing Industry and, with focus on the tuna and fishing industry, opened this morning at the Intercontinental Resort in Balaclava.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Seetanah Lutchmeenaraidoo, the Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the EU to Mauritius, Mrs Marjaana Sall, and other personalities were present.

The meeting is being co-chaired by Mauritius and the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission.  Representatives of the EU fishing fleets as well as representatives of the fisheries sector of Madagascar and Seychelles are participating in the meeting.

Two sessions are on the agenda: the first one is devoted to technical discussions between representatives of the EU fishing industry and the Indian Ocean Tuna processing industry; and the second session is dwelling on wider fisheries-related issues.

In his address, Minister Lutchmeenaraidoo emphasised that this third meeting will provide a platform for a structured dialogue on the management of fisheries resources in the Indian Ocean region and Indian Ocean Tuna Commission matters.

The Minister indicated that it is necessary to make sustainable use of marine resources while simultaneously respecting the ecosystem.  Moreover, he expressed gratitude to the EU for their concerted efforts in protecting the ocean.

With regard to the Post-2020 Cotonou Agreement, Mr Lutchmeenaraidoo stated that Mauritius has evolved as a key player, being a member of the steering committee of the African Caribbean and Pacific Group of States.  He spoke of the strong partnership between Mauritius and the EU on the issue of tuna supply and fishing activities in the region.

For her part, the Head of Delegation of the EU to Mauritius, Ambassador Sall, pointed out that the meeting marks a key milestone in Mauritius-EU bilateral and regional cooperation.  The EU, she said, has developed a range of partnership agreements, including Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreements, which provide technical support to tackle illegal fishing and to improve marine and coastal management in line with ensuring the growth of a sustainable blue economy.

The Ambassador emphasised that the position of Seychelles and Mauritius, respectively ranked second and third exporters to the EU market of canned tuna for year 2017, demonstrates that small islands of the India Ocean can become big players in the world seafood sector.  Madagascar has as well shown a vibrant seafood sectoral growth by exporting shrimp and tuna products over the recent years, she added.
