  • Paris Saint Germain touched down in Manchester for the crunch European clash
  • The French champions will meet United in the Champions League last 16 round
  • Kylian Mbappe was with the travelling party and will lead the line at Old Trafford
  • PSG are without Neymar and could also be missing star striker Edinson Cavani

Danny Gallagher For Mailonline

Paris Saint Germain have touched down in Manchester for a crunch European meeting with a United side who look vastly transformed under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The reigning French champions are among the favourites to win the competition this season, though must first overcome a last 16 opening leg clash at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

The stars of PSG boarded their team plane on Monday morning, ready to make the short flight from the French capital to north west England.

Mbappe will lead the line for Thomas Tuchel’s side at Old Trafford, and will be expecting to provide additional flair and impetus in the absence of talisman Neymar.

The mercurial Brazilian has been ruled out of Tuesday’s match due to a re-occurrence of a foot injury, of which he is working to recover from.

PSG could also be without main goal threat Edinson Cavani, after the Uruguayan limped off during a recent Ligue 1 victory over Bordeaux.

Tuchel rested several names for the meeting, due to PSG’s solid status at the top of Ligue 1, and it was Cavani himself who scored from the penalty spot before later picking up an injury.

Speaking last week, Tuchel told reporters in France that the chances of Cavani appearing at Old Trafford are slim.

‘We don’t have good news for Edi. My feeling is that it will be very difficult for him to play,’ said manager Thomas Tuchel after the tie.

‘The club will wait a little longer, but in my opinion the news will not be good. Hope is very, very small.’

Tuchel had kept the likes of Leandro Paredes and Mbappe in reserve ahead of the last-16 first leg in Manchester.

PSG have however already proven their ability in overcoming English opposition this season, after beating Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool during the group stage in Paris.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri waits to see if owner Roman Abramovich will sack him

Maurizio Sarri takes training as under-fire Chelsea boss waits to see if owner Roman Abramovich will make him latest manager to be sacked

  • Maurizio Sarri will only lose his Chelsea job if Roman Abramovich intervenes
  • Club director Marina Granovskaia made the decision to hire Sarri in the summer
  • The Italian was clinging to his job after Chelsea’s 6-0 defeat at Manchester City
  • Chelsea stars arrived for training as usual on Monday ahead of European action

Max Winters For Mailonline

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri will only lose his job if owner Roman Abramovich decides to intervene and cut him loose.

The Italian was left clinging to his job on Sunday night after Chelsea’s embarrassing 6-0 defeat at Manchester City.

Sarri, who took training as usual on Monday morning, even admitted he was under threat after Chelsea crashed to their biggest defeat in 28 years against the rampant Premier League champions.

Club director Marina Granovskaia made the decision to hire Sarri in the summer after being attracted by ‘some of the most exciting football in Europe’ from his Napoli team.

It appears the final decision on Sarri’s future will be in Granovskaia’s hands unless Abramovich takes it upon himself to step in and make the call.

Sarri remained coy over his future on Sunday and, when asked if he was expecting a call from Abramovich, pointed towards the power structure at Chelsea.

‘You have to ask the club,’ Sarri said amid growing calls for his removal after a fourth defeat in eight games. ‘I’m worried about my team. I’m worried about the performance. My job is always at risk.

‘If the president calls, I’ll be happy, seeing as I never hear from him.

‘To be honest, I don’t know what to expect. I didn’t see my football. At the beginning of the season it worked. Now we need to understand the reasons why it isn’t working. It is not easy.’

Chelsea players looked downbeat as they pulled into the club’s Cobham training base on Monday morning.

Eden Hazard, David Luiz and N’Golo Kante were among those seen driving into the facility as they swiftly returned to the training pitch.

An under-pressure Sarri must now rouse his players for Thursday’s Europa League knockout tie with Swedish side Malmo.

Things then get even tougher as they face a rejuvenated Manchester United in the FA Cup next Monday.
