Leinster and Ireland flanker Sean O’Brien will join London Irish when his central contract ends after the 2019 World Cup.

O’Brien has agreed a three-year deal worth around €420,000 per annum (£370,000) with the Exiles, who are currently nine points clear at the top of the Championship.

The back-row forward, 31, has earned 54 Ireland caps and was selected for the 2013 and 2017 British & Irish Lions tours, making five Test appearances.

On joining, O’Brien said: ‘This is one of the hardest decisions that I have ever had to make. I have played all my rugby in Ireland.

‘With Tullow, with Leinster and with Ireland and to move from the place I call home and that I love so much, was not easy.

‘That being said, I feel that the time has come to explore other opportunities, to challenge myself at a new environment, in a new city, with a new club and against different players and teams on a weekly basis.’

Ireland had opted not to renew the flanker’s central contract due to concerns ove his age and recent fitness record.

O’Brien added: ‘London Irish and what they are about is a club that I feel I can grow with and also contribute to and I feel that they have a set up and an ethos that will make me feel at home.

‘For me and the time I have left here in Ireland, I want to stay fit and healthy and finish out the season with a strong Six Nations with Ireland and then turn my attention to Leinster and hopefully a seat on the plane to Japan.’

London Irish coach Declan Kidney added: ‘Recruitment is an on-going process, and we are always on the lookout for players of Sean’s ability. Sean has proven himself time and time again to be a quality player who sets very high standards for himself and those around him, he leads by example and has a winning mentality.

‘We are delighted that Sean wants to come and be a part of our journey as we move back into West London at the new Brentford Community Stadium in August 2020 after he has finished his commitments to Leinster and Ireland at the end of this year.’

De ce fait, le Chief Strategy Officer souligne qu’au niveau des revenus, il est important «to maintain a conducive business environment for successful shifting the country’s economic growth into higher strata , with a case in point relating to the simple, predictable and low fiscal regime…»

Brit Jamie Chadwick becomes first woman to win MRF Challenge

0

[ad_1]

Jamie Chadwick, one of the hottest young talents in British racing, has made history throughout her career, and has continued that trend by winning the MRF Challenge International Series.

The 20-year-old became the first woman to win the coveted prize after an incredible performance in Chennai, India, on February 10.

She achieved six victories in the 15 race championship, and came back from a large deficit to win in style at the final event.

The MRF Challenge started at the Dubai Autodrome in November, where Chadwick ended second in the championship standings, 28 points behind Formula Renault driver Max Defourney.

Chadwick then achieved three wins at the Bahrain GP Circuit in December to reduce the gap, although she was still 18 points behind.

However, in Round 3 in Chennai, Chadwick managed two fifth places and three all-important victories, including a fastest lap, to get 97 points and overtake Defourney by 37 points to claim the title.

‘I’m absolutely delighted. It was hard work, and very physical, especially in this 35C heat, but worth all the effort,’ Chadwick said after the final race.

‘We entered the series quite late, mainly to get some winter training and race fitness, prior to the 2019 season. Some notable names have done MRF in the past and it fitted into my schedule.

‘Of course, as soon as you get in the car you want to win races, but there were some good drivers this year, especially Max [Defourney] and he left Dubai with a formidable lead, so I knew I would have to dig deep and every race and every point would count. But we got there in the end.

‘Huge thanks, of course, to my team, the organisers, Veloce Sports [my managers], my sponsors Aldermore Bank and Bloc Hotels, and all the local support I have enjoyed at each venue. It’s been awesome.’

Chadwick earned £25,000 for winning the MRF Challenge, which has previously featured high profile drivers such as European F3 Champion Mick Schumacher, son of F1 legend Michael, and IndyCar racer Pietro Fittipaldi.

The cars in the race series are equivalent to Formula 3, with the chassis designed by Dallara, powered by a 2-litre 210bhp Renault engine, built by Jayem Automotives (Coimatore), and mated to a sequential six-speed gearbox.

Jamie Chadwick began racing at the age of 12 in local club karting, and she won the Ginetta Junior Scholarship at the age of 14.

In 2015, Chadwick stepped up to senior GT/Endurance racing in the British GT4 Championship, and co-won the title in the Beechdean Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage with Ross Gunn.

She became not only the first woman to win a British GT title, but also the youngest driver ever to do so at 16. In the same year, Chadwick became the first female driver to be part of the Silverstone 24 Hour winning team.

Last year, Chadwick became the first woman to win a Formula 3 race, doing so at Brands Hatch, and she also has a lot planned for 2019.

Chadwick plans to enter the Womens’ Series, a new race series taking place in Spain in March. She is in the final 28 of the selection process.

She is also contracted to work with Aston Martin again in 2019, she has been working with Formula E team NIO, and her management company Veloce has teamed with Alonso eSport Team.

Former Thailand FA boss Worawi Makudi successfully appeals against FIFA ban for falsifying documents

  • The 67-year-old was originally given a five-year ban by in 2016
  • He persuaded a FIFA appeal committee to reduce it three and a half years
  • Makudi then appealed against that decision at global sport’s highest court
  • The Court of Arbitration for Sport cancelled his ban from all football activity

Press Association

Former FIFA official Worawi Makudi’s three-and-a-half-year ban has been overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after the ex-Thai FA president proved he had not falsified documents.

The 67-year-old was originally given a five-year ban by FIFA’s ethics committee in 2016, after it was claimed he had illegally altered the Thai FA’s rules to facilitate his re-election in 2013.

Makudi, who served on FIFA’s executive committee (ExCo) between 1997 and 2015, persuaded a FIFA appeal committee to reduce that sanction to three and a half years, only to appeal against that decision at global sport’s highest court.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport cancelled Worawi Makudi’s ban from all football activity

In a statement, CAS said its panel has decided that Makudi did not breach article 17 (forgery and falsification) of FIFA’s code of ethics but did breach article 41 (obligation of the parties to collaborate), although not to the extent FIFA believed.

‘Accordingly, the CAS panel found the appropriate sanctions to be a reprimand and a fine of 5,000 Swiss francs (£3,870) and cancelled the ban from taking part in any football-related activity,’ it said.

But the panel added that Makudi presented ‘additional witnesses and new information’ at his CAS appeal – new evidence that was crucial to his case and could have cleared him sooner.

‘As a consequence, the CAS panel did not grant any costs to Mr Makudi, although he was successful in part in this appeal procedure,’ it added.

Makudi tried to sue Lord Triesman for defamation after the former FA chairman told the UK Parliament that the Thai had demanded the broadcast rights to a friendly between England and Thailand in return for voting for England’s unsuccessful bid to host the 2018 World Cup. The case, however, was dismissed in 2014.

Jamie Carragher: ‘Chelsea made Bournemouth look like Brazil’

Jamie Carragher puts the boot into under-fire Maurizio Sarri and claims his Chelsea side ‘made Bournemouth look like Brazil’… but insists club should NOT sack him before the end of the season

  • Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is under fire after a string of bad league results
  • Chelsea had a shock 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth before losing 6-0 to Man City
  • Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said they made Bournemouth ‘look like Brazil’

Matt Porter For Mailonline

Pressure continues to grow on Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri, and he and his team came under even more criticism after a 6-0 drubbing by Manchester City on Sunday.

Pundit Jamie Carragher has rubbed salt in the wound by calling their away performances ‘woeful,’ however he does believe Sarri should be given more time at the club.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher even went as far as to say that ‘they made Bournemouth look like Brazil‘ in their 4-0 defeat on January 30.

‘Their last few away performances have been woeful,’ said Carragher. ‘Their lack of intensity is unbelievable.

‘There’s talk of Sarri wanting to press high and win the ball back. He hasn’t got the players to do it. They’ve got so many players over 30. Chelsea’s players need to be aggressive. They made Bournemouth look like Brazil.’

The likes of David Luiz, Gary Cahill, Willian, Pedro, and Higuain are all over the age of 30, and Chelsea have made a habit over not starting younger players in the lineup.

Carragher went on to say that Sarri has even lost the Chelsea fans.

‘Sarri is not getting the support from his own fan base. Who is actually supporting this man if the board aren’t?’

There has been a lot of talk about the possibility of Maurizio Sarri losing his job as Chelsea manager sooner rather than later. A poor performance against Malmo in the Europa League and against Manchester City again in the upcoming Carabao Cup final might be the final straw.

However, Jamie Carragher says that Sarri should be kept around for now, although questions whether he should have even gone to Chelsea in the first place.

‘He should be there until the end of the season,’ he said. ‘The only reason we’re talking about Chelsea and what they’ve done. We’re not talking about [Unai] Emery, it’s Chelsea and Sarri.’

Chelsea’s board have a reputation for being quick on the trigger when it comes to firing under pressure managers.

‘We see teams throw the dice at the bottom and change managers. It seems Chelsea may be thinking that now. Maybe Sarri has picked the wrong club?’

Chelsea have a tough run of fixtures coming up, with two Europa League ties against Malmo, an FA Cup match against Manchester United, the League Cup final on February 24, and Tottenham in the Premier League a few days later.
