Overseas fans WILL be allowed to attend Tokyo Olympics without mandatory vaccines or quarantine periods… as long as they submit a negative coronavirus test

Overseas spectators will be allowed to attend next summer’s Olympics without mandatory vaccines or quarantine periods.

According to local sources, the Japanese government are preparing to accept foreign visitors at the Tokyo Games as long as they submit negative Covid-19 test results.

Tourists will be able to skip the usual two-week quarantine period on their arrival and they will be permitted to use public transport.

But they will have to download the country’s contract-tracing app plus a new specially created app linking visas, test results and tickets.

Almost one million tickets for Olympic events have been bought by fans from overseas, although that does not mean there will be one million tourists as many will be attending multiple events.

Decisions regarding the capacity of venues will not be decided until the spring.

Tokyo saw a monthly record of 9,857 confirmed coronavirus cases in November and there have been more than 2,000 deaths nationwide – compared to more than 59,000 deaths in the UK.
