Mohamed Salah is ‘in a good mood, a good moment and good shape’, says Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool boss tries to brush off talk of an exit after his star man revealed his desire to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has moved to quash recent speculation that star man Mohamed Salah is headed for the exit door any time in the near future.

The Egyptian’s current Liverpool deal expires in the summer of 2023 and he is one of the club’s highest earners with wages of around £200,000-a-week.

Salah shocked the Reds by claiming his future was uncertain during an interview with Spanish publication AS.

Asked by if he would rule out a move to LaLiga in the future, the former Chelsea forward failed to do so.

‘I think Madrid and Barcelona are two top clubs,’ he said. ‘Who knows what will happen in the future, but right now I am focused on winning the Premier League and the Champions League with Liverpool again.’

However, Klopp insists he is not concerned.

‘Mo is in a good mood, a good moment, really good shape,’ the German coach said in a press conference on Wednesday morning.

‘That’s the most important thing. Today, you would have seen him laughing a lot in training. All the rest, nice for you all to write about but, internally, nothing really’

When pressed on his future further, Salah told AS that everything was in Liverpool’s hands, adding: ‘That’s a tough question, but right now I can say that everything is in the hands of the club.

‘Of course I want to break records here and, I repeat, all the club records, but everything is in the hands of the club.

Klopp opted to start Salah on the bench for Liverpool’s game at Crystal Palace at the weekend but insisted he was taking the opportunity to give the forward a much needed rest.

Salah was introduced on the hour mark and scored twice as the Reds beat Roy Hodgson’s side 7-0 at Selhurst Park.

He is now two clear in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, having found the net 13 times in 13 appearances.

Those current statistics come after Salah – who signed a heavily-incentivised five-year extension with the Anfield side in July 2018 – finished fifth in the race for the Golden Boot last season in Liverpool’s victorious league campaign with 19 goals.
