The Turkey international had been linked with a possible move to Old Trafford, with his contract running out next summer and United understood to be keen on securing him on a pre-contract deal.

Hakan Calhanoglu looks set to sign a new deal at Milan, dashing Manchester United’s hopes

They suggest that representatives of Calhanoglu will fly into Italy on Wednesday, before meeting club chiefs at Casa Milan – the club’s HQ away from San Siro.

Milan currently pay their No 10 just over £3m a year, and that could rise to more than £4m according to reports.

It is thought the stalemate between the two sides has come as a result of Calhanoglu lowering his demands.

It had been reported he was looking for as much as £5.5m a year to stay with the Serie A club.

The Turkey international has impressed for Stefano Pioli’s men this season, and Milan are top

Staying in Milan is an attractive prospect at the moment, with Stefano Pioli’s men leading the way in Italy.

They are three points clear of rivals Inter at the top of the table, and have yet to lose all season in the top flight.

Calhanoglu has been a key part of that form, with the attacking midfielder notching five goals and five assists in all competitions to date this season.
