Man United pay tribute to Class of 92 mentor Eric Harrison ahead of facing Liverpool

Manchester United players, staff and supporters paid tribute to Class of 92 mentor and coach Eric Harrison after he died last week at the age of 81. 

A minute’s applause was taken before kick-off against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday as tributes flooded in from players of that famous generation. 

Harrison played a vital role in developing the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, who penned his own tribute to Harrison before the match.

Harrison played a vital role in developing players such as Ryan Giggs and David Beckham

‘You think about coaches and they give players what they like to do but he gave players what they needed to do,’ the former Manchester United right back said to Sky Sports. 

‘He put us into shape, taught us about our game and you have someone every single day who knows how to teach us. Our understanding of the game was built by him. 

‘Everyone who came through his school was mentally tough enough to make it in the game.’ 

There was some furore over a section of Liverpool supporters heard chanting during the applause and the applause was cut short with some United fans booing the chanting. 

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer touched on the passing of Harrison in his programme notes, mentioning how much of an impact the 81-year-old has had on the club’s commitment to youth players.
