- Cristiano Ronaldo scored the only goal of the match as Juventus won at Lazio
- The striker found the winner in the 15th minute and was denied by the woodwork
- Ronaldo hobbled off in the second half and had ice applied to his painful ankle
- Juve made it three wins in a week and rose to second in the early Serie A table
Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner as Juventus won at Lazio in Serie A on Sunday.
The striker found the net in the 15th minute as Juventus earned a third straight win in all competitions to go second behind AC Milan.
Juve enjoyed a third win in seven days following their 4-1 win at Ferencvaros in the Champions League on Wednesday.
he game was overshadowed by growing controversy and confusion over COVID-19 tests, as Ciro Immobile, Thomas Strakosha and Lucas Leiva were negative in the club’s regular tests, but positive for UEFA and a different Italian lab, so they were placed in isolation the day before this match. Luis Alberto returned after his time out with Coronavirus and Stefan Radu had his first game in a month after injury. Giorgio Chiellini, Matthijs de Ligt, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Sandro were out for Juve.
Leonardo Bonucci immediately had to make a crucial interception to stop Vedat Muriqi sliding onto a low cross from the right from six yards.
After a couple of attempts from distance with Cristiano Ronaldo and Adrien Rabiot, Juve broke the deadlock. Juan Cuadrado deserves much of the credit, having dribbled away from two players down the right to put a low cross in for Ronaldo to bundle over the line.
Lazio had a huge opportunity to equalise, as Sergej Milinkovic-Savic nodded it down across the face of goal and Muriqi was inches away from getting his studs to it from a yard out.
Joaquin Correa also fired straight at Wojciech Szczesny after cutting back past Merih Demiral, while Ronaldo and Muriqi were just off target.
Ronaldo thought he’d doubled his lead on another counter, but this time the curling finish smacked against the top of the far post.
CR7 came even closer with the last move of the half, as his free kick from the edge of the area was palmed out from under the bar by Pepe Reina.
