Jose Mourinho hits out at ‘unprofessional’ Premier League for last-minute postponement

Jose Mourinhi has labelled the postponement of Tottenham’s clash with Fulham this week ‘unprofessional.’

Spurs were furious after the London derby was called off less than four hours before kick-off due to an increase in positive coronavirus cases in the Fulham camp.

The north Londoners were also angry about being kept in the dark by the Premier League and Fulham before the decision was eventually made and manager Mourinho said: ‘I don’t want to speak too much about it. Just to say that I felt unprofessional but that’s the way it is or that’s the way it was.

Spurs were due to take on Fulham on Wednesday but the game was postponed due to Covid

‘We were preparing ourselves for that match and of course we didn’t play and that’s disruptive of what’s a week of work.

‘The training sessions before that of course would be different if we were going to play that game.

‘People can think “good for you, good for me” if I didn’t play – and if I know that I don’t play then I can have a different cycle in training sessions.

Mourinho mocked the Premier League and its ‘best league in the world’ tag in the caption

‘But not to play and not to train in the way we’d like in the days before doesn’t help.’ 

The Spurs boss also revealed he does not expect to see any fresh faces arrive in north London this month. 

Mourinho was backed in the summer window with the likes of Sergio Reguilon, Pierre Hojbjerg and Matt Doherty arriving, while Gareth Bale made his return from Real Madrid on loan. 

It was the second fixture postponed this week after Everton v Man City was abandoned 

However, the Portuguese admitted it would be a ‘big surprise’ if any new players were added to his squad in the January transfer window. 

‘I’m not expecting, no,’ he continued. ‘Times are not easy. the club made a big effort in the summer to try and build a good squad. 

‘Honestly, if something good happened for us, it would be a big surprise for me.’
