Jamie Redknapp insists Tottenham can end their 13-year trophy drought

Jamie Redknapp believes Tottenham can win the Carabao Cup this season and end their 13-year wait for a trophy.

Jose Mourinho’s Spurs booked their place in the League Cup final on April 25 after beating Championship outfit Brentford 2-0 on Tuesday night.

The north London club will face either Manchester United or Manchester City, who meet in the second semi-final on Wednesday night, and former Tottenham midfielder Redknapp has insisted Spurs can go all the way.

‘Fans get brainwashed by getting top four but when you look back at your career, you want to win trophies,’ he told Sky Sports.

‘Of course it’s going to be difficult but they’ve beat both Manchester teams. They’ve got so much to look forward. With the team they can beat anybody.’

Goals from Moussa Sissoko and Son Heung-min saw Spurs seal their spot at Wembley. The League Cup was the last trophy Tottenham won, back in 2008.

Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino came close, but Mourinho has a proven track record when it comes to silverware. He has won four League Cups in his trophy-laden managerial career so far.

Former striker Darren Bent, who played for Spurs between 2007 and 2009 and was part of the side that beat Chelsea in the 2008 League Cup final, claims that the Portuguese’s winning mentality is rubbing off on the current crop of Spurs stars.

‘This is why you bring in Mourinho. If they win it, it would be like validation,’ he said on Sky Sports.

‘When he got the job, I thought they’d be closer to winning the trophy. When you’ve got a serial winner, it’s seeping into the players.’
