‘I want my Tottenham back’: Spurs fans call for Daniel Levy and ENIC to QUIT the club in angry protests before league clash with Southampton over the decision to join up for the ill-fated European Super League

  • Tottenham fans have protested against their club over the Super League idea
  • Spurs were one of 12 clubs to join the project but quit the proposal on Tuesday
  • The club’s supporters called for Daniel Levy and his ENIC group to resign
  • Fans held banners up ahead of the club’s Premier League tie with Southampton

Tottenham supporters have congregated outside their club’s stadium holding banners calling for Daniel Levy and the ENIC group to leave the club.

Spurs were one of the six teams to sign up to the European Super League on Sunday night, an idea which completely collapsed 48 hours later due to strong opposition to the breakaway division from the world of football.

Tottenham face Southampton in the Premier League on Monday night and some fans ignored social distancing rules to hold banners saying ‘ENIC Out’, ‘Levy Out’ and ‘We Said No to the Super League’.

Another banner said ‘ENIC Out – Sold a Soul You Didn’t Own’ and another said ‘Shame on You Levy’.

The announcement of the Super League was met with controversy as it proposed that 15 clubs would be guaranteed access to the division every year irrespective of their position in other leagues.

The mega-rich proposal was also backed by fellow English clubs Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and the two Manchester clubs – City and United – but all of the ‘Big Six’ teams withdrew from the Super League idea on Tuesday night.

Spanish side Atletico Madrid as well as AC and Inter Milan from Italy also quit on Wednesday while Juventus owner Andrea Agnelli admitted the league can no longer take place after the series of rejections. Just Barcelona and Real Madrid remain in the competition.

Fans of the ‘Big Six’ sides along with other clubs from England complained about the lack of ‘sporting integrity’ the competition showed as it would have replaced the European giants’ involvements in UEFA competition in tatters.

Chelsea fans protested heavily on Tuesday night outside Stamford Bridge just hours before the Blues withdrew from the Super League project – with the club’s supporters stopping the team bus from entering the ground ahead of their match with Brighton.

The supporters celebrated wildly when Chelsea exited the Super League group of 12 while Petr Cech was forced to come out and negotiate with the fans stopping Thomas Tuchel’s side from entering their own stadium.

Liverpool also held banners outside Elland Road ahead of Monday night’s trip to Leeds with similar scenes happening at Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground.

Tottenham are now the latest club to protest against their club’s decision to join the Super League in what has been a busy week for Spurs owner Levy, who recently celebrated the 20-year anniversary years of being the club’s owner.

Levy, who has been targeted by his own fans over his role in the club before, opted to sack iconic manager Jose Mourinho on Monday just a few days before the club were to participate in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.

Mourinho had been at the club for 17 months but was dismissed when Spurs were seventh in the table and on a run of one win from six matches.

Sportsmail reported on Monday that Spurs would have to pay the Portuguese coach a £20million compensation fund for his early sacking.

Ryan Mason has been installed as interim coach until Spurs and Levy find a long-term successor. RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann is the early favourite to replace Mourinho.
