[Mauritius 11 August 2021] Carbon neutrality is the shared mission of the entire world. Huawei Digital Power Technologies Co., Ltd. (Huawei Digital Power for short) was established to develop the digital power business and accelerate its growth. Our vision is to integrate digital and power electronics technologies to drive energy revolution for a better and greener future.

On the 11th August 2021, Huawei in collaboration with IET and IEM, has hosted a webinar on the “Transition to a Low Carbon Economy – Potential of Renewable Energy Technologies in Mauritius”. The key speakers for this event were Dr. Yatindra Ramgoolam, Mr. Vicky Mohabirsingh and Dr. Pratima Jeta.

Huawei Digital Power covers business domains: smart PV, data center facility, site power, mPower, and embedded power, and integrated smart energy. With approximately 6000 employees, 60% of whom are focused on R&D, Huawei Digital Power serves one third of the world’s population across more than 170 countries and regions.

By June 30, 2021, Huawei Digital Power has already helped customers generate 403.4 billion kWh of green power, save 12.4 billion kWh of electricity, and reduce CO2 emissions by 200 million tons, which is equivalent to planting 270 million trees (estimated based on data published by the North Carolina State University regarding the relationship between carbon emissions and tree quantities).

By leveraging its advantages in digital and power electronics technologies, Huawei Digital Power integrates cutting-edge innovations such as watt, thermal, energy storage, cloud, and AI technologies. It focuses on clean power generation, energy digitalization, transportation electrification, green ICT infrastructure, and integrated smart energy, and collaborates with industry partners to accelerate carbon neutrality.

In the budget speech 2021, the local Mauritian government announced their endeavor and target to reach a power generation mix of 60% based on renewables energies. Huawei Digital Power endeavors to contribute to the achievement of this goal of the local Mauritian government. The Energy Summit is a medium to convey and introduce the latest state of the art technologies proposed by Huawei Digital Power to the engineering communities of Mauritius.

With this event, Huawei Digital Power endeavors to open new avenues of collaboration with local and regional players, by bringing the latest state of the art technologies to the proximity of these players.

Dr. Yatindra, Senior Lecturer University of Mauritius, centered his presentation on the potential of renewable energy technologies in Mauritius. He discussed on the resource availability of wind, ocean and solar energy and the recommended technologies. The technology preference, market share and PV development trends were highlighted alongside with battery energy storage and the potential of Green hydrogen.

The second presentation was on solar inverters introduced by Mr. Vicky H. Mohabirsingh, Senior Manager, Digital Power Huawei Technologies. According to Mr. Vicky, solar inverters are highly energy efficient (93-96%) and can be used to power up the AC appliances in your home seamlessly. The differences between off-grid, on-grid and battery-hybrid inverters were also pointed out.

Dr. Pratima Jeetah, Senior Lecturer University of Mauritius was the final presenter. She pointed out the potential of Biomass as a probable renewable energy source that can substitute fossil-based fuels in the short to long term.
