Covid-19 is once again playing havoc with the sporting calendar in the United Kingdom.
A number of football and rugby clubs have reported outbreaks within their squads and coaching staff as the new strain of coronavirus spreads across the country.
We have already seen the postponement of several football fixtures in the Premier League, the EFL and the National League over the Christmas and New Year period.
The Premier League fixture between Everton and Manchester City was called off on Monday
More postponements are likely to follow in the weeks ahead as clubs battle to contain outbreaks within their ranks.
There will also be the knock-on effect of fixture congestion as the leagues try and rearrange the postponed matches in the months to come.
Rugby has also been affected, with several Premiership fixtures cancelled as a result of Covid outbreaks.
Wednesday night’s Premier League game between Tottenham and Fulham was postponed
The Premiership has devised a system whereby matches will not be rearranged but will be recorded as a 0-0 scoreline. The side that has suffered the Covid outbreak will receive two points and their opponents four.
