Having had three different managers since his arrival at Chelsea in 2018, Jorginho was left somewhat impressed by Lampard’s managements skills.

The midfielder believes Lampard ‘skipped’ some steps that he ‘needed’ to succeed with such a prolific team.

He told ESPN: ‘Look, I’ll be very honest with you about Lampard. I believe that because he is a legend of the club, I believe that he skipped some steps that you need to learn to reach a great team.

‘He arrived at the club where he is a legend, without having experience with other teams.

‘I think he arrived too early, skipped a few steps and was not ready for a job at that level, honestly’.

Jorginho found life under Lampard difficult, having been repeatedly excluded from his squad following Project Restart.

The midfielder was handed zero appearances and zero minutes in Chelsea’s first five matches after the restart and was subsequently linked with a potential departure from Stamford Bridge.

Jorginho was not only pushed down the pecking order following Chelsea’s mass signing in the summer of 2020, but was also axed as the team’s No.1 penalty taker following the arrival of Timo Werner.

As a result, Lampard was keen to Jorginho to stump up additional funds but held off from parting ways with the midfielder due to the economic state of the transfer market.
