FA sex abuse in football report in final stages with findings set to published next month

The long-awaited report into child sex abuse in football is nearing completion. 

Sportsmail understands that Clive Sheldon, the QC who is leading a review on behalf of the FA, is currently writing up what promises to be an exhaustive document.

Victims have been told that no further delays are expected and sources have disclosed that the review’s findings may be published late next month or in early October.

Andy Woodward, whose heartbreaking revelations over the abuse he suffered triggered a scandal within the sport, branded delays to its release as an ‘absolute disgrace’.

The ex-Crewe and Bury defender’s abuser, prolific paedophile Barry Bennell, pleaded guilty to another set of sexual abuse charges last week, removing the final legal barrier to publication of the report started in December 2016.

But amid no sign of the report’s arrival, Woodward hit out, claiming survivors such as himself had been ‘left high and dry’.

He added: ‘I’d have thought that as soon as Bennell pleaded guilty they would have been ready to press the button.’
