EFL clubs find another 16 cases of coronavirus following 5,470 tests of players and staff as numbers fall for the fourth week in a row after the introduction of stricter rules

  • EFL clubs were required to test for Covid twice a week from early January
  • Results have shown a steady decline in the incidence of coronavirus
  • Fall in positive cases down to tougher rules and falling rates in the community
  • Lateral flow tests are less accurate but more affordable than the PCR test

EFL clubs have detected another 16 cases of coronavirus among players and staff in the latest round of testing.

Since earlyJanuary, football league clubs have tested  twice-a-week for the virus in an attempt to stop the spread.

The additional testing, combined with new Covid protocols and a falling infection rate in the wider community, appears to be working.

Last week, the 16 cases were identified from 5,470 tests, an infection rate of  0.29%.  All 72 clubs were tested and 64 of them found no cases of coronavirus at all.

This compares to 19 cases from 5,448 tests and an infection rate of 0.35% the week before.

More to follow.
