Dustin Poirier insists neither UFC chiefs or Conor McGregor’s team ‘have reached out to him about trilogy bout’ despite Irishman publicly pushing for third fight to take place as soon as May after Fight Island defeat

- However, Poirier says no one has ‘reached out’ to him about the fight as of yet
Dustin Poirier says there has been no movement from the UFC or Conor McGregor‘s management regarding a trilogy fight.
McGregor is said to be pushing for the trilogy fight to take place as soon as May or June after being stunned by Poirier in a second-round TKO during their rematch at UFC 257.
However, Poirier has said McGregor’s team is yet to ‘reach out’ to him despite speaking publicly about their plans for the fight to take place sooner rather than later.
Dustin Poirier says there has been no movement from Conor McGregor’s team on trilogy fight
‘I don’t know what they’re saying behind closed doors,’ Poirier told MMA Junkie.
‘I haven’t been reached out yet by the UFC or by Conor’s management about the trilogy fight. So, I’m not sure what’s going to happen. I haven’t been reached out to the UFC about anything.’
Poirier has also said that the UFC chiefs are yet to reach out to him about trilogy bout
The news comes after McGregor’s team publicly pushed for the third fight to take place in May
McGregor had pledged to secure a first round knockout against Poirier – just like he did seven years ago at UFC 178 in 2014.
However, Poirier landed an early takedown before consistently attacking McGregor’s lead right leg to immobilise him. Poirier went on to finish the job with an uppercut and strong right hook that left the former two-weight world champion in a daze.
Poirier said the secret to his success at UFC 257 was his kicking and admits he was happy with his performance.
‘I know the leg kicks definitely compromised his movement,’ Poirier said.
‘I’ve had my legs torn up by Jim Miller, and I know the pain and what happens to your foot. It stops working with, it stops listening to your commands when you want to spring back and push forward.
‘Things just are moving differently, and on top of that the pain is just so, so bad. That’s one of the worst pains I’ve ever had in fights, whenever my calf got kicked over and over and over again.
‘I think that stopped his mobility, but ultimately hands got the job done.’
McGregor said a leg injury obtained in the UFC 257 fight was the size of an American football
McGregor took to Instagram to show off the battered leg sustained in his defeat by Poirier
McGregor complained of a ‘dead leg’ after the bout and was filmed hobbling around the Etihad Arena on crutches in the aftermath of his defeat – comparing the size of his right leg to an American football.
McGregor even took to Instagram to post a photo of himself with an elevated leg and hailed Poirier.
Speaking after the fight he said: ‘It’s heartbreaking, it’s hard to take, highest highs and the lowest lows. My leg is completely dead – even though I felt like I was checking them I was badly compromised. It is like an American football in my suit at the minute.
‘Dustin had a hell of a fight. I felt alright in the second round, felt better than him in the clinch but too little too late – my leg was compromised and I didn’t adjust.
