Claude Puel SACKED by Leicester City with Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers favourite to land job

Claude Puel has been sacked by Leicester, with Brendan Rodgers the firm favourite to take over.

Leicester have acted after the 4-1 home defeat by Crystal Palace meant the side have lost seven of the last nine games.

The atmosphere among players at Puel’s methods is said to be at rock bottom, and the pre-season target of seventh appears a remote prospect. The club are 12th, only eight points above the relegation places.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is now the firm favourite to take over from the Frenchman 

Sportsmail reported before Christmas how Puel’s position was precarious due to low morale at Belvoir Drive, with communication, selections, and training said to be problematic.

Victories over Chelsea and Manchester City saved his job but Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha has decided a change is required now. 

A double from Wilfried Zaha sent Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace side to within two points of Leicester and it proved Puel’s final act.

Claudio Ranieri and Craig Shakespeare were also sacked after failing to win in six consecutive matches.

Sportsmail understands Rodgers has been Leicester’s prime target for a number of weeks, and the club will now try to convince the former Liverpool boss to leave Celtic immediately. 

It had been thought the 46-year-old wanted to see out the campaign in Scotland.
