CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND-UP: Brentford keep up the pressure on West Brom in chase for automatic promotion with last-gasp win against Charlton as Luton slip up late against Barnsley to dent their survival chances

  • Said Benrahma and Ethan Pinnock scored late on as Brentford beat Charlton
  • The victory puts Bees two points behind West Brom in automatic promotion race
  • Luton drew 1-1 with fellow strugglers Barnsley to dent their hopes of survival

Brentford kept up the pressure in the race for automatic promotion after a late turnaround earned a 2-1 victory over Charlton.

Following Fulham‘s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest earlier in the evening, Thomas Frank’s men had dropped a place going into the game but eventually got the victory with two goals in the final 15 minutes.

The victory put the automatic promotion chasers two points behind second-placed West Brom, who face Dercy County on Wednesday.

The Bees had looked unstoppable in their four games since the restart but MaCaulay Bonne gave the visitors an unlikely lead after just eight minutes at Griffin Park.

It was an out-of-sorts display by the home side but Said Benrahma levelled things up from the spot before Ethan Pinnock headed home the winner in the 85th minute.

At the opposite end of the table, Luton’s slim chances of survival were hampered further as Barnsley scored six minutes from time to earn a 1-1 draw and keep the home side at the foot of the table.

Luke Berry crashed home a rebound to give the home side an early lead and, at the time, put them two points off safety.

But Aapo Halme struck late on to keep the away side a point above them in the table.

For both sides, relegation from the second-tier looks likely with fellow in-danger sides Middlesbrough and Hull with one more game to play.

The remaining 6pm kick-off in the Championship saw Huddersfield play out a goalless draw with Reading to edge them three points from the drop zone.
