Borussia Dortmund sack Lucien Favre after their humiliating 5-1 at home to Stuttgart

Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund have sacked their manager Lucien Favre after their humiliating 5-1 at home to Stuttgart on Saturday.

It is believed the squad will be informed about the decision during their training on Sunday afternoon and Favre’s previous assistant coach Edin Terzic will take charge of the team against Werder Bremen.

As it stands, Dortmund currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga table on 19 points from their first 11 games.

Since taking the reigns at Signal Iduna Park in May 2018, Favre has found himself under fire more often than not, despite leading the club to back-to-back second-place finishes in his first two seasons.

Most recently Favre has been criticised for limiting Dortmund’s creativity as the Bundesliga giants have conceded almost twice as many as they have scored so far this season.

During his time at the helm, Dortmund have played 110 games, won 68, drawn 17 and lost 25.

Dortmund defender Mats Hummels added fuel to the fire when he publicly criticised his manager.

Following their disastrous performance against Stuttgart, he slammed Favre’s tactics by telling Sky Sports Germany.

‘We always try to play small and small through narrow spaces and have a huge ball-loss rate.

‘If it works, it looks like nice football. But it rarely does. That requires too much skill.’

‘A lot went wrong today,’ the 31-year-old continued. ‘We didn’t play a good first half either, but we went into the break happy to be level at 1-1.’
