Bernd Leno provides injury boost to Arsenal as club announce goalkeeper could be back in FOUR WEEKS despite being stretchered off with knee injury in defeat at Brighton
- Bernd Leno was taken off on a stretcher following a clash with Neal Maupay
- The Brighton striker jumped and collided with Leno who landed awkwardly
- There were immediate fears Leno was facing long-term stint on the sidelines
- But it appears that he could be back in full training within the next six weeks
Bernd Leno could find himself back in Arsenal training in six weeks with his knee injury sustained in last weekend’s defeat to Brighton not as bad as first feared.
The German goalkeeper sustained ‘moderate ligament sprain’ to his right knee during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat having landed awkwardly following a collision with Brighton striker Neal Maupay.
Leno was stretchered off and looked in real discomfort at the time. He had some choice words for Maupay as he exited the pitch to be replaced but the club’s statement on Tuesday suggests he could be back much sooner than expected.
While he may not be risked again for the remainder of the Premier League season, an official club statement read: ‘Positive news after detailed assessments.
‘Sustained moderate ligament sprain during Brighton & Hove (a) on Saturday. Aiming to return to full training in four to six weeks.’
The club also confirmed young striker Gabriel Martinelli suffered a cartilage injury in his left knee in training on Sunday. He is set to under more tests in the forthcoming days.
