Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny had to be substituted due to injury as his side took on BATE Borisov on Thursday night in the second leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie.

Koscielny suffered a problem and was taken off in the 56th minute, being replaced by Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

The Frenchman looked extremely angry on the bench as he received treatment.

The 33-year-old has endured much frustration with injury, having been out from May to November last year after rupturing his Achilles in the Europa League semi-final clash with Atletico Madrid.

Koscielny’s Achilles has frequently troubled him in recent years, but he has still managed to make 12 first-team appearances this season.

Arsenal will be especially eager for good news regarding the timeframe of Koscielny’s latest injury, with fellow centre-back Rob Holding set to miss the remainder of the campaign with a knee problem.

Konstantinos Mavropanos, another centre-back option, wasn’t included in Arsenal’s Europa League squad, leaving Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis as the only natural senior centre-backs available to Unai Emery in that competition if Koscielny faces a lengthy spell out.

Arsenal are back in Premier League action on Saturday when they host Southampton.
