Andre Onana’s hopes of landing a dream move to the Premier League remain up in the air, even after Ajax agreed to re-sign goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg from Everton.
Fans of the Amsterdam club hung a banner outside the training ground on Monday, pleading with the Cameroon goalkeeper to stay for another season.
Hours later Ajax confirmed a deal with Stekelenburg which prompted questions over whether that would clear the path for Onana to leave.

But it’s understood the 37-year-old’s return to Amsterdam will have no immediate impact on whether Onana will stay or go.
The 24-year-old is keen to leave Ajax this summer, with Chelsea and Tottenham among his preferred destinations.
The £27million-rated keeper is prepared to sit tight for another season at Ajax, however, given the uncertainty caused by coronavirus.
That would please the club’s F-Side faction, who draped a huge banner outside the training facility on Monday.

Carrying a picture of the goalkeeper’s face, the red and white sign read: ‘Onana, please one more year’. Onana later posed beside it for a photograph.
The Cameroon international has made 178 appearances for Ajax since joining from Barcelona’s La Masia academy back in 2015.
Barca are among the clubs who have explored a move for the goalkeeper this summer, Sportsmail has been told.
But a move to England remains the dream for Onana, who has two years left on his current contract.

He is best friends with Hakim Ziyech, who has already secured a move from Ajax to Chelsea this summer.
Unless the Blues sell No 1 Kepa Arrizabalaga, however, Onana’s hopes may be scuppered.
Ajax are prepared to let the goalkeeper leave, but CEO Edwin van der Sar has ruled out selling him on the cheap in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis.
Stekelenburg, meanwhile, will return to Ajax in August after signing on a free transfer. He has penned a one-year contract.
