Republic of Mauritius- The Customs Anti-Narcotics Section confiscate drugs worth Rs 22 M

GIS– – 06 December, 2019: The Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) has seized drugs worth Rs 22 million on Saturday 9 November 2019 at the SSR International Airport.


A total of 125 pellets of heroin were swallowed by four Zimbabweans who were intercepted at the Airport while they were leaving through the Green Channel. The female passengers were travelling on Air Mauritius flight MK 852 from Johannesburg.

 

The luggage of the Zimbabweans was scanned and they were interrogated on the purpose of their visit to Mauritius.  After intensive questioning, one of them revealed that they had swallowed pellets of illicit drugs in South Africa.

 

The Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) proceeded with further investigation of the passengers and their belongings.
