Brad Fittler has never been afraid to make bold calls when it comes to Origin selection, but plenty of questions are being asked after he picked a record three Cowboys players while shunning two Parramatta stars.
North Queensland has been the surprise package of the 2022 NRL season and the club has been rewarded with a record nine players being selected for the State of Origin decider at Suncorp Stadium next Wednesday.
That includes an unprecedented three Cowboys in the NSW squad, including hooker Reece Robson, halfback and co-captain Chad Townsend and prop Jordan McLean – although the latter has now been scratched with a hamstring injury.
Townsend (pictured in 2016) has come close to Origin selection before and has earned another spot in the squad for the decider in Brisbane. He will only play if there is an injury
Their selection came at the expense of Parramatta’s Origin players Mitch Moses and Reagan Campbell-Gillard.
And now the conspiracy theories are flying.
Some Cowboys fans are worried their Origin stars will get injured ahead of the run to the finals.
‘Is there anyone left from the Cowboys to play SOO. Or are they secretly trying to injure all the Cowboys in one foul swoop to knock them off the ladder,’ one posted.
‘Please don’t break him with Freddy’s weird training,’ said another.
Cowboys fans think they have cracked the code on why Fittler picked so many of their players
But another group has an entirely different theory that Fittler is trying to pick the brains of the Cowboys players to gain valuable insight into the tactics used by North Queensland and consequently, the Maroons.
‘Do we think it’s also an information gathering exercise for Origin?’ one fan asked.
‘My conspiracy theory is Freddy [Fittler] is going to elicit some of the Cowboys secrets, since half of the Queenslanders come from the Cowboys,’ posted another.
While the Cowboys are riding high in second place on the NRL ladder and celebrating record State of Origin representation, the same cannot be said for another top-eight side.
The Eels appear to have been struck off Fittler’s Christmas card list and many fans were left stunned that Cowboys Townsend and McLean were selected ahead of former Origin players Moses and Reagan Campbell-Gillard.
Some fans have speculated that Fittler is wary of the Eels’ erratic performances in 2022, which is why the star duo have been left out.
Fittler is no stranger to swinging the axe and making left-field selections to get the job done
However, Campbell-Gillard might be involved in a conspiracy theory of his own.
The rampaging prop played 114 games for Penrith before moving to Parramatta in 2020.
He revealed that he didn’t leave the foot of the mountains under the best of circumstances in 2020, saying that he ‘didn’t care’ in his final days at the Panthers.
Campbell-Gillard has been one of the best props in the NRL this year but was dropped from the Blues after their game I loss in Sydney
Now SEN‘s Michelle Bishop believes those words have come back to bite him, with Blues skipper Nathan Cleary and a host of other Panthers players potentially blocking his path back to Origin.
‘If my memory serves me correctly there was an interview done, he probably didn’t think about the consequences of the interview as he moved on and had a fresh start,’ she said.
‘But it was along the likes of, ‘I just got tired, I didn’t want to play there anymore’, it was about attitude.
‘Those comments … maybe it did annoy a couple of the guys.’

The post EVA Air to launch new flights to Milan and Munich appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily.

EVA Air, Taiwan’s leading independent airline, is set to launch nonstop flights between Taipei and two popular European destinations. It will initiate the Milan service on 25 October 2022 and introduce Munich flights on 3 November 2022. The airline will start with two flights per week to Milan and four to Munich. The addition of the Milan and Munich services to the current London, Amsterdam, Paris and Vienna gateways will give EVA Air the best-developed Taiwan – Europe network with the greatest frequency, offering travellers more flexibility on popular routes. Travellers can learn more about the new routes and services or book flights and buy tickets at the website from 6 July 2022.
EVA Air had planned to launch the Milan service in February 2020 but the pandemic and associated lockdowns made that impossible. Now, it is moving ahead with the service to Italy’s second-most populous city and financial capital. Milan and Munich mark EVA Air’s first route expansion in the European market in 25 years. EVA Air currently flies nonstop to Taipei from Paris and Vienna and operates direct flights from London and Amsterdam with one stop in Bangkok. The added service will give business and leisure travellers more itinerary opportunities when they choose to arrive in one city and return from another.
Passengers from Milan and Munich will be able to arrive at Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) in the early morning and easily connect onward aboard one of EVA Air’s frequent flights to northeast and southeast Asia, just as those from Paris and Vienna can now. The expanded flight network will position EVA Air to attract more travellers from Europe who can comfortably and efficiently fly to and from the airline’s main hub in Taiwan to popular destinations throughout Asia. The added routes will also benefit EVA Air’s long-term development and stability.
The airline will serve the routes with 777-300ERs:

The post Singapore Airlines boosts Japan services and restores pre-Covid connectivity to India in response to strong demand appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) will increase services to points across Japan and restore its Indian network to pre-pandemic levels in the coming months. The Airline will also add more flights to Los Angeles and Paris by December 2022, and continue with its direct services to Vancouver.
This is in response to strong demand for air travel, and will offer customers more flexibility and options in the Northern Winter operating season (30 October 2022 to 25 March 2023). Together with other adjustments to the SIA and Scoot network, the SIA Group capacity is projected to be at around 81% of pre-pandemic levels by December 2022.
Ms JoAnn Tan, Senior Vice President Marketing Planning, Singapore Airlines, said: Japan is a key market for the SIA Group, and we will work closely with our partners to meet the demand for air travel as entry requirements gradually ease. Robust demand for travel to and from India, to points across the Group network, support an increase in our services in this important market.
By stepping up services into the Northern Winter season, we give our customers even more flight options as they make their travel plans over the next few months. The SIA Group will closely monitor the demand for air travel and adjust its services accordingly.
From 24 July 2022, SQ634 to Tokyo (Haneda) and SQ638 to Tokyo (Narita) will become daily services. Together with the daily SQ12 service from Singapore to Los Angeles via Tokyo (Narita), SIA will operate three daily services into Japan capital, up from 14 flights per week. The daily SQ636 service to Tokyo (Haneda) will be reinstated from 30 October 2022, bringing Tokyo up to 28 weekly services.
Flight SQ618 from Singapore to Osaka will be reinstated on 30 October 2022, bringing services between Singapore and Osaka to twice daily. The SQ656 service to Fukuoka will increase to three flights per week. With the thrice-weekly service to Nagoya, SIA will operate 62% of its pre-Covid operating capacity to Japan by 30 October 2022.
The Airline will progressively operate 17 weekly services to Chennai, up from the current 10 flights per week. Kochi services will go up to 14 times weekly, up from the current seven flights per week. Bengaluru services will go up to 16 times weekly, up from the current seven flights per week. SIA will operate almost 100% of its pre-Covid operating capacity to India by 30 October 2022.
From 30 November 2022, SQ36 will operate as a daily non-stop flight to Los Angeles. This is in addition to the current daily SQ38 service. The Airline will operate 21 weekly services to Los Angeles, including the daily one-stop service through Tokyo (Narita), up from the current 17 flights per week.
From 1 December 2022, SQ332 will operate five times weekly from Singapore to Paris, up from its current three times weekly service, and complementing the current daily SQ336 service to the city. Paris will be served with 12 weekly flights, up from seven flights per week.
To cater to the growing travel demand, SIA will continue its thrice-weekly SQ48 direct service to Vancouver in the Northern Winter operating season.
The flight schedules can be found in Annexe A. The additional services are subject to regulatory approvals. Tickets will be made available for sale progressively through the various distribution channels.
