Premier Inn has started construction on what it is billing as its first ‘all-electric’ hotel.

The property in Swindon Town Centre has been designed without a natural gas connection and will instead be fully heated and powered by grid energy generated from renewable sources and by on-site photovoltaic (PV) cells.

The 195-room hotel will also feature air-source heat pumps and new water-heating technology from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

The property is being constructed on a vacant brownfield site in the town’s centre and will offer a Thyme bar and restaurant, as well as 38 of the group’s enhanced Premier Plus rooms.

Premier Inn said that the removal of natural gas from its estate was key to its target of achieving net zero emissions by 2040.

“This is a considerable challenge as we rely on natural gas to heat water in our network of hotels and power many of our restaurant kitchens across the country”, said Alex Flach, Premier Inn’s UK Development Director.

“The new all-electric Premier Inn is designed to give us everything we need to run an operationally successful hotel.  A combination of a thermally efficient building and on-site energy recovering and generating systems has given us the confidence to remove fossil fuels from the new Premier Inn”.

Posing in bucket hats, dressing room dance moves and the trophy on ice with a crate of beers! Behind the scenes of England’s wild celebrations after beating Germany to secure the Euro 2022 title

England’s victorious Lionesses partied long into the night after their remarkable European Championship triumph.

The Lionesses beat Germany 2-1 in front of a raucous sellout crowd at Wembley Stadium on Sunday thanks to goals from substitutes Ella Toone and Chloe Kelly.

And after Sarina Wiegman’s side secured the win against their old rivals – the first ever major trophy in English women’s football and the first in men and women’s football in 56 years after the 1966 World Cup – the players let their hair down.

Are you a West Coaster? Visit Wester Ross rolls out two new films post successful campaign

The post Are you a West Coaster? Visit Wester Ross rolls out two new films post successful campaign appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily.

Visit Wester Ross, a voluntary tourism association based in Wester Ross in the Scottish Highlands, has released two new films as it extends its successful marketing campaign ‘Are you a West Coaster?’ into the summer months. The campaign has been designed to attract visitors who have an affinity with Wester Ross and the people who live there.

This time, viewers are introduced to the ‘Wildlife West Coaster’ and the ‘Storyteller West Coaster’. Steve Ward from the Glass Bottomed Boat in Gairloch is the Wildlife West Coaster. Originally from Coventry, “pure love” brought Steve to Wester Ross.

Steve said: “We get to see starfish, crabs, lobsters occasionally and different seaweeds and we have a population of seals who always enthral our visitors. I wake up every morning and kick myself that I’m here and I’d certainly like to see more tourists staying in the area for longer.”

Eddie Stiven is the ‘Storyteller West Coaster’, a playwright living in Glenelg who frequently welcomes people from all over the world and shares stories about Wester Ross as they discover its natural and historic landscape.

Eddie believes that Wester Ross is a great place to tell stories: “The stories are literally here. They’re in the place names, in the oral tradition of the people who live here, they’re in the Gaelic language, the English language and the Scots language. They tell us how places are named, about the history of piping, and about the antiquities that we have here, particularly the lovely brochs. Wester Ross has a rich cultural heritage, and it is a wonderful place to live.”

Launched in January this year, Are you a West Coaster? comprises a series of films featuring West Coasters who run businesses in Wester Ross and are looking to develop sustainable tourism in the area, which is also designated a Biosphere by UNESCO.

These new films are part of the tourism strategy for Wester Ross, supported by national efforts spearheaded by VisitScotland, to develop sustainable tourism.
