Nikita Parris bagged a brace as Manchester City secured an impressive away win against Chelsea to reach the FA Women’s League Cup final.
England forward Parris netted after 49 and 81 minutes — her seventh and eighth goals in City’s last six games — in front of 1,348 spectators at Kingsmeadow.
She opened the scoring with a penalty, after winning the spot-kick herself when she was fouled by Deanna Cooper.

After the match, a delighted Parris said: ‘It’s a great feeling to be in the Continental Cup final – the smile on my face says it all!
‘It was a massive team performance. We were under the cosh in the first half but in the second half, we came out fighting.’

The final will take place at Bramall Lane on Sunday, February 23 — the same day City’s men meet Chelsea in the Carabao Cup showpiece at Wembley.

The R&A and USGA have revised a rule which was only introduced in January after two controversial incidents on either side of the Atlantic.
China‘s Li Haotong was penalised two shots on the 72nd hole of the European Tour’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic because his caddie was on a direct line behind the ball when he began to take his stance on the green.
That was in breach of rule 10.2b(4), one of a number amended at the start of 2019, and meant the defending champion dropped from a tie from third to a tie for 12th, costing him more than 80,000 euro.

Five days later American Denny McCarthy was penalised for the same offence in the Waste Management Phoenix Open on the PGA Tour, although that penalty was swiftly rescinded.
A joint statement from the R&A and USGA on Wednesday read: ‘The purpose of Rule 10.2 is to reinforce the fundamental challenge of making a stroke and to limit the advice and other help a player may receive during a round.
‘Rule 10.2b(4) ensures that aiming at the intended target is a challenge that the player must overcome alone. It states: ‘When a player begins taking a stance for the stroke and until the stroke is made, the player’s caddie must not deliberately stand in a location on or close to the player’s line of play behind the ball for any reason. If the player takes a stance in breach of this Rule, he or she cannot avoid penalty by backing away.
‘Exception – Ball on Putting Green: When the player’s ball is on the putting green, there is no penalty under this Rule if the player backs away from the stance and does not begin to take the stance again until after the caddie has moved out of that location.
American Denny McCarthy was penalised in the Waste Management Phoenix Open
‘The two clarifications provided today can be summarised as follows:
‘Meaning of ‘Begins Taking a Stance for the Stroke’: If a player backs away from a stance, the player is not considered to have begun a ‘stance for the stroke’. Therefore, a player can now back away from his or her stance anywhere on the course and avoid a breach of Rule 10.2b(4) if the caddie had been standing in a location behind the ball.
‘Examples of When a Caddie is Not ‘Deliberately’ Standing Behind the Ball When a Player Begins Taking Stance for Stroke: As written, the Rule does not apply if a caddie is not deliberately standing behind a player.
‘It is clarified that the term ‘deliberately’ requires a caddie to be aware that 1) the player is beginning to take a stance for the stroke to be played and 2) he or she (the caddie) is standing on or close to an extension of the line of play behind the ball.’
David Rickman, executive director of governance at the R&A, said: ‘These clarifications are designed to improve the operation of the Rule and give the players more opportunity to avoid a breach while remaining true to the purpose of the Rule.
‘We appreciate that this requires some players and caddies to make an adjustment, but we believe there is widespread acceptance that it is for the player alone to line up a shot.’

Rob Howley wants Wales to become the history boys in Rome on Saturday, and beat the 10-match winning run from his playing days.
Howley captained the Wales team in 1999 that put together the longest unbeaten streak since the 1907-10 vintage, who won 11 in a row.
And now he is the assistant coach with this current crop, who will go one better than the turn of the millennium team if they beat Italy in the Six Nations, Howley wants to extend the run.
Wales backs coach Rob Howley is confident the current side can achieve an 11th straight win
‘It’s something I look back on with fond memories, but I want the record to be broken by the current players and for them to create their own history and build their own confidence for the World Cup and what is a huge year,’ said Howley.
‘I was captain for the majority of the 10 games in a row we won in 1999. There is always a turning point for a team and I suppose for us in 1999 ours was beating England at Wembley.
‘That was huge for us. It was one my best games as a Welsh international just in terms of the performance and us actually winning the game in the manner in which we did with Scott Gibbs’ try.
‘We didn’t really deserve to win that game, but we found a way somehow. Neil Jenkins kicked his goals like he always seemed to either with penalties or conversions. We scored some great tries and that was the start for us going into the 1999 Rugby World Cup.’
Howley was part of the team that won 10 consecutive games in 1999 but wants record broken
Warren Gatland noted that Wales were a side who had ‘forgotten how to lose’ after their record turnaround victory against France last week. And Howley wants to keep the snowball rolling.
‘Winning is a habit and you always seem to find a way to do it,’ he added.
WALES’ WINNING RUN
W v Italy (h) 38-14 March 11 2018
W v France (h) 14-13 March 17 2018
W v S Africa (n) 22-20 June 2 2018
W v Argentina (a) 23-10 June 9 2018
W v Argentina (a) 30-12 June 16 2018 W v Scotland (h) 21-10 Nov 3 2018
W v Australia (h) 9-6 Nov 10 2018
W v Tonga (h) 74-24 Nov 17 2018
W v S Africa (h) 20-11 Nov 24 2018
W v France (a) 24-19 Feb 1 2019
‘Along the way you always seem to find a bit more luck too. I don’t know why. It just always seems to be the way.
‘I go back to when this run started against Italy, but the confidence and self-belief the players took from Argentina was huge, especially with us being without our Lions players.
‘As coaches you are only as good as your players and the competition within ours is huge. I said to Neil (Jenkins) when we went through our winning run, you didn’t want to be the players in the jersey when you lose.
‘You’ve got a big responsibility when you play as a result and fingers crossed it will go well when we play this weekend. We won’t underestimate Italy in what is their first home game.
Fly-half Dan Biggar may start in place of Gareth Anscombe after replacing him against France
‘We know their motivation and what they bring emotionally to a game at the Stadio Olimpico. That’s very evident and we have to counteract that.’
And Howley weighed in on the great Welsh No 10 debate, dropping a big hint that Dan Biggar might play fly-half in Rome instead of Gareth Anscombe.
The latter struggled in France as Biggar came on to close out the win and when asked about the Kiwi convert and man in possession Howley said: ‘We have got Dan as well, who might be given an opportunity. I think it’s horses for courses, really.
‘I think it’s healthy competition, and I think that will continue between now and the World Cup.
‘Gareth is a fantastic attacking threat. It was difficult conditions on Friday night, and if you weren’t in the stadium you didn’t appreciate it. The conditions worsened throughout the evening – they were tough.
‘Sometimes it’s hard and unlucky if you have those conditions. I think we won the second half 24-3, and our second half performance seemed more like an international performance, and Gareth played a part in that.’
