Two Southampton fans arrested after making plane gestures to Cardiff supporters following death of Emiliano Sala as Saints pledge to impose bans
- Two Southampton fans were seen making plane gesture to Cardiff supporters
- It comes just days after the confirmation of the death of striker Emiliano Sala
- Sala’s light aircraft carrying him to Cardiff crash-landed in the English channel
- Both fans were detained and Southampton are set to impose stadium bans
Two Southampton fans were detained by police for mocking the death of Emiliano Sala by making airplane gestures towards Cardiff City supporters inside St Mary’s Stadium.
This was Cardiff’s first game since it was confirmed that their £15million signing had died in a plane crash and tributes were paid to the player following the tragedy.
Yet sickening footage emerged afterwards showing two men in the stands at St Mary’s, stretching their arms out wide and pretending to be planes towards the away end.

A Southampton supporter was seen looking across at the Cardiff fans and making the gesture

He held his arms outstretched and bobbed from side to side to replicate a plane’s movement
Cardiff fans can be heard in the video calling them ‘sick’ while a steward approaches the pair. Both fans had their details taken by Hampshire Police and will face three-year banning orders from the South Coast club.
The visitors won via a stoppage-time winner from Kenneth Zohore and manager Neil Warnock said afterwards: ‘We wanted to do it for Emiliano and I’m really proud the lads have done him justice.’
Players in games across the Premier League and EFL wore black armbands in tribute to Sala.

Supporters paid emotional tribute to the £15million striker who never got to make his debut

A banner was also unfolded and passed from one supporter to another across the away end

There was a minute’s silence at St Mary’s while Cardiff fans wore daffodils in memory of the Argentine. They also sang his name throughout.
Sol Bamba, who scored Cardiff’s other goal, said afterwards: ‘It’s been a tough couple of weeks. I know Emiliano Sala was looking from up there so it’s good to get the three points.’
Sala, 28, was travelling to Cardiff in a light aircraft with pilot David Ibbotson which went missing over the English Channel on January 21.

PSG 1-0 Bordeaux: Edinson Cavani limps off after scoring winner and Thomas Meunier forced off by head injury ahead of Manchester United tie
- Cavani opened the scoring for PSG with a 42nd-minute penalty on Saturday
- But the striker went off holding his thigh in the first minute of the second half
- Meunier asked to be taken off following a head clash with a Bordeaux player
- French champions face United on Tuesday night in the Champions League
Paris St Germain got back to winning ways in Ligue 1 on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat of Bordeaux but the French champions lost striker Edinson Cavani through injury ahead of their Champions League trip to Manchester United.
Cavani opened the scoring with a 42nd-minute penalty before holding his thigh and leaving the pitch, three days before PSG take on United in their Champions League last-16, first leg tie.
PSG coach Thomas Tuchel is already without Brazil striker Neymar, who was ruled out of the whole tie with a foot injury.

Edinson Cavani scored a first-half penalty before holding his thigh and leaving the pitch
The result put leaders PSG on 59 points from 22 games, 13 ahead of second-placed Lille, who have played one more game.
The was some good news for PSG as midfielder Marco Verratti returned to the line-up after recovering from an ankle injury.
Verratti played almost an hour before being substituted by Leandro Paredes.

Cavani broke the deadlock with a penalty for his 17th goal in 16 league games this season
The Italian is now expected to start on Tuesday against a resurgent United side who claimed their 10th win in 11 games under caretaker coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when they beat Fulham 3-0 on Saturday.
PSG, who suffered their first league defeat this season against Olympique Lyonnais last weekend, were in control against mid-table Bordeaux.
Cavani broke the deadlock with a penalty for his 17th goal in 16 league games this season after Thomas Meunier had been fouled in the area. Meunier was later replaced following a head clash with a Bordeaux player.

A couple of minutes later Cavani limped off the pitch clutching his thigh, prompting Tuchel to substitute him with Kylian Mbappe, who had been expected to be rested ahead of Tuesday’s clash.
The French international is now likely to start as a lone striker at Old Trafford, supported by Julian Draxler and Angel Di Maria.
The second half was relatively poor, with PSG players, wearing shirts with their names written in Mandarin to mark the Chinese New Year, taking no risks and a Bordeaux side lacking in creativity.

PSG coach Thomas Tuchel had to change his plan and use Kylian Mbappe after Cavani went off
The visitors’ only clear chance after the break came in the 61st minute when Gianluigi Buffon pulled off a superb save to tip away Francois Kamano’s 25-metre strike.
Bordeaux are 12th on 28 points.

Brighton 1-3 Burnley: Chris Wood nets twice as Sean Dyche’s men move out of bottom three
[ad_1]
Let’s hope nobody at the bottom end of the Premier League suffers from claustrophobia.
It seems to become more and more congested by the week, with just three points splitting Crystal Palace in 13th and Southampton in 18th.
So if you consider Huddersfield already doomed and Fulham pretty much written off, the thinnest of margins will now determine the fate of the six clubs above them gasping for air.

Brighton defender Shane Duffy got the home side back into by heading in from close for his fifth goal of the season
Fine margins like Lewis Dunk slipping at the crucial moment to allow a Burnley goal, or two former players in Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes coming back to haunt you.
While Wood’s double and Barnes’ penalty had Burnley surging three places up the standings, it’s an increasingly desperate situation for Brighton, who remain winless in the Premier League in 2019 and have been sucked into the mire.
Cardiff’s last-gasp winner at Southampton dumped Burnley into the bottom three at kick-off and the visitors started as though awaking with a start to relegation reality.
Twice inside the opening three minutes Tom Heaton had to make smart saves to deny the lively Solly March; the first a touch over the crossbar from a header, the second a push away at full stretch.

But Burnley soon shook off their doziness and almost took a 17th-minute lead. Dwight McNeil’s marauding run down the left culminated in a low shot that Shane Duffy turned against his own crossbar. The ball cannoned out to Barnes, whose header scraped the bar before bouncing over.
Heaton replaced Joe Hart as Burnley’s No 1 at the back end of last year and Sean Dyche’s evident faith in him was justified once again when he denied March for a third time with incredible reactions.
And how crucial that proved when Burnley seized the lead a minute later. Barnes lofted a ball from the left-side in towards Wood and when Dunk slipped at an inopportune moment, the Kiwi was through to finish clinically, high into the net.
How typical for Brighton fans that both Barnes and Wood are former players, scoring 26 league goals between them in the 2010-11 promotion campaign from League One.
The hosts could easily have restored parity before the break, the fingertips of Heaton touching the ball away as Pascal Gross tried to hook the ball home. Shane Duffy’s thumping header from a Gross corner was cleared off the line by Jeff Hendrick.

The second-half started with Brighton probing, but Burnley punished their lack of a cutting edge once again just after the hour.
The eye-catching teenage midfielder McNeil picked the perfect moment to slip Wood through on the left and his swept finish into the far corner beat Mat Ryan.
And when Barnes raced through, he was brought down by Ryan as he tried to skip around the goalkeeper. It was a clear penalty, with Ryan fortunate not to be sent off. Barnes tucked the penalty into the bottom corner.
Many home fans made for the exits but Shane Duffy kept interest alive by heading home from Anthony Knockaert’s free-kick.
