Pep Guardiola admits he is struggling to find a successor for his magnificent Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho as he plots to extend the 33-year-old’s career with a possible switch to defence.
Fernandinho played there, to the surprise of many given that England centre-half John Stones was left on the bench, and turned in a superb display in last week’s 3-1 win over Arsenal.
His manager may well play safe and not make a similar decision at home to Chelsea on Sunday, as the leaders look to keep pressure on Liverpool in an absorbing title race.

But with Fernandinho out of contract next summer, by which time he will be 35, Guardiola may repeat what he did with Javier Mascherano at Barcelona and look to move him there permanently.
‘I think he can play in that position, I am pretty sure,’ said Guardiola.
‘He is fast, he is strong in the air, good going backwards and when he sees the football in front of him, his vision for the pass inside, switch of play is excellent.
‘So he is intelligent to go forward or go backwards, so he understands everything. Of course he has to train more at it. I think he can do it, but his position is as a midfield player.’
‘I know what is going to happen when we lose when Fernandinho plays in that position. I am a genius, huh?
Guardiola plots to extend the 33-year-old’s career with a possible switch to defence
‘But he can play there because we analyse the skills and what we need. We need a guy who understands the build up and that is why we use him.
‘It is better to be always in the same position, you know that, always there and not change too much but when the player is open minded and accept and you speak to him in training and he say, ‘I can do it’, and he understands the situation, it is not a problem.’
However, replacing Fernandinho’s pivotal role in midfield will be no easy task. Having lost out on Napoli’s Jorginho to Chelsea last summer, Guardiola admits progress is slow in landing a replacement.
‘The scouting department always are looking for players for different positions and you never know what is going to happen,’ he said.
‘We have some options and are looking for some options but today it is not easy to find the player and to buy the player so we will see. You know, we spoke many times about that. We are trying to help Fernandinho in that position.’

Meanwhile, Guardiola has praised Fernandinho and his team mates for their concerted effort to become the first team in a decade to retain the Premier League title.
The last three champions have finished the following seasons at least 30 points behind first place and Guardiola has been delighted at City’s response to date.
‘I know, in the last five or six years, the position where the champions were the year after. All of them were out and didn’t have a chance to win the Premier League,’ he said.
‘However, we are there. That is what I like the most in this season. We are in the Carabao Cup Final and you are in all the competitions then we are fighting. In the last two seasons, Leicester and Chelsea had no chance, but we are there at the top.
‘That is what I like the most but if we want to be there until the end. If we win against Chelsea it will help us and if we win the game, I am sure we will be there again fighting to be champions again.’

Partiellement nuageux dans l’après-midi. La température maximale sera de 24 à 27 degrés Celsius sur le Plateau Central et entre 29 et 32 degrés Celsius sur le littoral.

Football Association chairman Greg Clarke has renewed calls for the regulation of agents in the wake of the Emiliano Sala tragedy.
The 61–year-old, this week elected as a Fifa vice president, wants ‘transparent’ and ‘sensible’ guidelines around intermediaries.
Fifa chose to deregulate the industry in 2015 but in recent times the growing influence of agents and staggering rise in the sums paid to them have led to calls for action.

The case of Sala, who perished when a plane carrying him from Nantes to new club Cardiff plummeted into the Channel, added further weight to those demands when involvement from a number of agents in a seemingly complex transfer emerged in the days after he went missing.
Following Uefa’s Congress in Rome, Clarke, who will be paid $250,000 per year for the four-year role, declined to say whether the death of the Argentinian striker, and the details surrounding his move, would lead to change.
‘I don’t want to comment on a case which is being investigated by police and the air accidents investigation branch,’ he said. ‘I don’t think that would be improper.’
Clarke did, however, call for action.
‘I’m a big fan of making sure that the agents are regulated properly, and that the market is transparent and clean and conforms to best practice,’ he said.
Clarke made the claims in the wake of the Emiliano Sala tragedy
‘I am sure most agents would want that too. Fifa have got a working party and we are supporting that. Uefa are supporting the changes. The English FA are supporting the changes.
‘We need to get in to it and come up with a set of regulations, make sure everything is transparent, everything conforms to best practice, and then put the rules in place to make sure it happens.’
Clarke disclosed that the topic was an ongoing discussion among football’s governing bodies.
‘There’s been a big debate at Fifa and Uefa about whether (deregulation) was the right thing to do,’ he said.
‘Within the English FA we’ve made sure our views have been heard because we are just one of 211 countries. We think there should be sensible rules in place, drafted in conjunction with the players, FIFPro, the Professional Footballers Association and others that protect everybody. A transparent set of rules, a compliant set of rules, that is then adopted globally.’

Travailleurs étrangers : “Nous serons intransigeants envers la maltraitance” affirme Callichurn

Contourner les abus dans le processus de recrutement des travailleurs étrangers à Maurice. C’est le but de Soodesh Callichurn, ministre du travail qui se dit attristé par la situation des travailleurs étrangers dans le pays.
Faisant reférence à Akilesh International, une entreprise située dans le nord du pays qui a été sujet à des maltraitances envers ses employés, le ministre a lancé une sévère mise en garde.. « nous ne tolérerons pas la maltraitance envers les travailleurs étrangers sur le sol mauricien, ces entreprises encourent des poursuites au criminel, nous serons intransigeants ».
Pour rappel, Akilesh International est soupçonné de maltraitance envers ses employés. Le ministère alertée, cinquante-et-un de ses employés étrangers ont été redéployés dans d’autres entreprises.
Profitant de l’occasion, Soodesh Callichurn a énuméré une liste de mesures qui seront prises par le gouvernement pour pallier à la situation.
« Les agents recruteurs n’auront plus lieu d’être. Les employeurs auront l’opportunité de faire leur recrutement eux-mêmes. Nous ferons en sorte que ces travailleurs soient mis au courant des conditions de travail dans leur langue maternelle avant de signer leurs contrats » a lancé le ministre du travail.
Le ministre du Travail s’exprimait lors d’une conférence de presse au Sun Trust Building, ce samedi 9 février.

Bientôt un parc récréatif à Ébène au coût de Rs 100 M

L’exercice d’appel d’offres pour l’aménagement d’un parc récréatif à Ébène sera lancé en avril prochain. C’était une question qui demeurait en suspens depuis la démolition de la promenade Roland Armand en mars 2018. La maquette pour ce parc récréatif est en voie d’ètre finalisée. Le site sera opérationnel dans le sillage de la phase 1 du Metro Express en septembre 2019. Les travaux coûtera Rs 100 millions.
C’est la Joint Venture Land Conception et Urban Scape qui a travaillé sur la conception de ce projet. Les travaux seront effectués sur huit arpents. Une fois les travaux seront terminés, les habitants de ce quartier et le public pourront profiter d’un nouvel espace vert.
