Anthony Joshua’s fight against American Jarrell Miller in June could be announced as early as Monday with all major terms now agreed

  • All major terms on the June 1 fight at Madison Square Garden have been agreed
  • Jarrell Miller was Anthony Joshua’s fourth option but other fights are unavailable
  • The fight is set to be Joshua’s first outside the UK as he looks to expand

Riath Al-Samarrai for MailOnline

Anthony Joshua‘s New York showdown with Jarrell Miller could be announced as early as Monday.

All the major terms on the June 1 fight at Madison Square Garden have been agreed, with formal confirmation in the pipeline for the next 48 hours.

It will mark Joshua’s first professional fight outside of the UK and serves to expand his profile in the US market.

Miller was initially only fourth on Joshua’s list of preferred targets for his 23rd fight, behind Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte. Wilder and Fury were always long-shot options after their December draw and forthcoming rematch, while talks broke down over a second fight against Whyte, who has hit out over the package he was offered.

That has allowed Miller to pick up a similar payday, which is in the region of £5m, while Joshua is in line to make approximately £20m for the fight.

Miller ranks No 3 with the WBO and No 2 with the WBA after going unbeaten through 24 fights (23 wins, one draw). However he has never faced anyone close to the level of Joshua, the IBF, WBA and WBO champion.

Miller has 23 wins and one draw in his 24 fights, but hasn't fought anyone on Joshua's level yet

Graeme Souness and Gary Neville believe Maurizio Sarri could be axed after Manchester City thrashing

‘It’s going to be difficult for him to hold on to his job… 6-0 is not acceptable’: Graeme Souness and Gary Neville believe Maurizio Sarri could be axed after Manchester City thrashing

  • Chelsea were ripped apart by Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday
  • The Blues found themselves 4-0 down after just 24 minutes
  • Maurizio Sarri is now the bookies’ favourite to next get the boot in the top flight
  • Graeme Souness and Gary Neville believe the signs are not good for the Italian

Peter Rutzler For Mailonline

Graeme Souness and Gary Neville believe Maurizio Sarri’s job is on the line following Chelsea’s embarrassing 6-0 defeat by Manchester City.

The 2016-17 champions were totally outclassed at the Etihad on Sunday and found themselves 4-0 down after just 24 minutes.

And after watching Pep Guardiola‘s title chasers rip the Blues apart, Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Graeme Souness believe the writing may well be on the wall for Sarri – who is now the bookies’ favourite to next get the boot in the Premier League.

Souness said: ‘I’m never comfortable talking about managers losing their job, I’ve been there, had that feeling, it’s not great.

‘Given the history of Chelsea, they don’t mess around do they? A lot of Chelsea supporters that came to this game were leaving just after half time.

‘For owners and directors coming… I think it’s going to be difficult for him to hold onto his job, 6-0 is just not acceptable for Chelsea. It might seem ruthless but that’s the business they’re in.’

Sarri is now 2/1 to lose his job with Betway, leapfrogging the maligned Marco Silva at Everton, whose side also lost this weekend.

The Italian looked to have recovered some support after beating Huddersfield 5-0 last week, masking the dismay at a 4-0 capitulation at Bournemouth a week prior.

But the Blues have now conceded 12 goals without reply in their last three games on the road, and pundit Neville concurred with Souness that the omens are not good for the former Napoli boss.

Neville said: ‘The interviews that Sarri has done, you can multiply that by 10 because what we hear is only part of it.

‘If it’s coming out publicly, inside it’s probably not that great.

‘It’s the kind of club you wouldn’t be surprised if you wake up tomorrow and find Chelsea have changed their manager.’

Chelsea were ran ragged by Manchester City who sent a chilling warning sign to Liverpool that they will fight them all the way for the title this season.

Sergio Aguero scored a sublime hat-trick – making amends for a glaring miss early in the first half – while Ilkay Gundogan and a Raheem Sterling double ensured the champions returned to the summit ahead of their Merseyside rivals.

Chelsea travel to Sweden during the week for their last-32 Europa League clash against Malmo, before another ominous test against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s rejuvenated Manchester United in the FA Cup a week on Monday.

‘If the owner calls, I’ll be happy…I never hear from him’: Sarri aims dig at Abramovic

‘If the owner calls, I’ll be happy, seeing as I never hear from him’: Under-pressure Maurizio Sarri aims dig at Roman Abramovich as his job hangs in the balance after Chelsea’s 6-0 drubbing by Manchester City

  • Maurizio Sarri conceded he was under pressure after loss to Manchester City
  • Chelsea were beaten 6-0 at Etihad Stadium with Sergio Aguero scoring hat-trick
  • Sarri said afterwards he hopes to speak to Chelsea manager Roman Abramovic
  • ‘If the President calls, I’ll be happy, seeing as I never hear from him,’ he said

Daniel Matthews

and
James Ayles For Mailonline

Maurizio Sarri hit out at Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich after his side were beaten 6-0 at Manchester City, claiming he ‘never hears from’ the club chief.

The under pressure manager hinted at a breakdown in communication between him and Chelsea’s top brass in the aftermath of a chastening 6-0 defeat that has left him fighting for his job.

Speaking after the game, Sarri accepted that his position was under threat after his side suffered their worst ever Premier League defeat. And now the Chelsea boss has risked the wrath of the club’s trigger-happy owner by claiming he’ll be ‘happy’ to hear from him for once.

‘If the President calls, I’ll be happy, seeing as I never hear from him,’ he told Sky Italia. ‘To be honest, I don’t know what to expect.’

Sergio Aguero netted a record 11th Premier League hat-trick while Raheem Sterling scored twice and Ilkay Gundogan was also on target as the hosts moved back to the top of the Premier League.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are sixth and Sarri has received increasing criticism for his perceived inflexibility in tactics, with the Italian admitting talks with the club owners are likely.

Asked whether the result will put pressure on his job, Sarri said: ‘I think that’s right. I am in charge of the team so it’s right.

‘I don’t know, not at the moment, but I think that will happen because it’s normal.

‘Something we need to do, we have to do. I don’t know, you’ll have to ask the club. I have no idea about this at the moment.’

Sarri admitted he was not sure of the reason for such an alarming collapse from his players, with the London club 4-0 down by half time.

Sarri said: ‘At the moment I’m not able to explain because during the week my feeling was really good during training.

Having started the season well, Chelsea's form and results have declined alarmingly

‘At the moment, I don’t know maybe the goal we conceded a goal after three minutes against this opponent and then it’s really difficult to play.

‘I think today the big difference between the two teams was the intensity of pressing. They pressed really very, very well, high intensity, we were not able to do it.’

The Italian further identified a problem achieving results away from home after another capitulation away from Stamford Bridge.

He added: ‘I think at the moment we have a big problem away, I don’t know because the beginning of the season we played better away than at home.

‘Now in the last month everything has changed. So we need to understand.’
