Lewis Wing looks a composed and energetic midfielder for Middlesbrough

Lewis Wing looks composed and energetic… playing further forward may help the Middlesbrough midfielder’s goal tally

  • Lewis Wing has played an important role for Middlesbrough so far this season
  • The 23-year-old midfielder’s passing is simple, safe and accurate
  • Playing further forward may bring him nearer the box and help his goal tally

The Secret Scout For The Daily Mail

Our scout is a top football expert who attends matches each week searching for the next star. He’ll bring you his verdict in Sportsmail.

This week the man in the spotlight is Middlesbrough midfielder Lewis Wing.

WHAT’S HE GOT?

Having been introduced into a regimented Middlesbrough side this young man looks to have cemented a senior place.

Playing on the right side of three midfielders with a ‘sitter’ and wing-backs also in operation, he was in effect at times in centre field among four colleagues.

This gave him regular opportunities to get on the ball and he stood out with composed, simple, safe and accurate passing. Energy is not a problem as he looks as though he can run all day and I was impressed with his work rate.

In the second half of a game I saw, he caught my eye when he ran beyond his wing-back out wide and took his marker with him, to leave space inside for his full back to play a pass. It was unselfish running off the ball to create passing opportunities for others. He also looked to break towards goal for a couple of efforts and although he did not score, one superb half-volley deserved better. What I also saw here was an eye to spot an early pass.

In one sharp movement he played one-touch passes three times in a quick passing move that he instigated. Physically he has no problem. He is athletic, tall and has the capacity to get around the field. He is prepared to challenge for possession and shows a team willingness and determination off the ball.

WHAT DOES HE NEED?

Playing further forward may bring him nearer the penalty box and help his goal tally. His previous background as a goalscorer in non-League for Seaham Red Star and Shildon suggests he can find the net.

It was difficult to see if he had a noticeable change of pace as here his team were in the ascendancy and dominated the ball, out-passing the opposition comfortably. It is for this reason that I would like to see Wing again, this time playing under pressure.

Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis normally goes for a sensible, tough-to-beat philosophy with experienced players. Here, he has a youngster who looks as though he will make good progress under his tutelage.

Progress of governmental activities right on track, says Tourism Minister

0

[ad_1]

GIS – 22 February 2019: In a bid to promote new tourist attractions and maximise the socioeconomic contributions of tourism, Government has announced in the 2018-2019 Budget the implementation of the Mahebourg Tourist Village project.  In that context, the Minister of Tourism, Mr Anil Kumarsingh Gayan met, yesterday, at the seat of the Ministry in Port Louis, stakeholders from the public and private sectors who are involved in the project to take stock of the overall progress of works achieved.

Minister Gayan recalled that the Mahebourg Tourist Village project was set to be a joint public-private partnership endeavour.  The village, he pointed out, has rich environmental, historical and cultural assets that are poised to add to its appeal as a tourist destination.  The project, he said, essentially seeks to harness the potential of Mahebourg as a major cultural and ecotourism attraction, and supports the development and upgrading of tourism structures and infrastructure.

According to him, Government is firmly committed to promote tourism as well as all other major infrastructural works being undertaken across Mauritius, as an instrument in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals geared towards fostering sustainable development.  Mr Gayan dwelt on the action plan of the public realm which centres on: the upgrading of Mahebourg into a touristic village through the uplifting of historical relics and vestiges; and, the development of islets having recreational and tourism potentials for the promotion of ecotourism.  All activities are set to be environmentally compliant, he emphasised.

The Minister also indicated that Government has embarked on an embellishment and clean-up programme.  He enumerated some ongoing works, namely: setting up of information panels and maps in strategic places, creation of Wi-Fi spots, and infrastructural works at the Mahebourg Cavendish Bridge.

However, Minister Gayan deplored the slow progress as regards the input of the private sector and recalled that it is essential for both the public and private sectors to put in joint efforts to spearhead the Mahebourg Tourist Village project.  On that note, he urged relevant stakeholders from the private sector to provide the Ministry of Tourism with their inputs in terms of proposals and specified timeline and budget.
