‘I would like him to continue this way’: Claude Puel believes Leicester star Jamie Vardy can prolong his career by adapting to his methods

  • Claude Puel believes Jamie Vardy can prolong his career under his guidance
  • Leicester boss Puel has been forced to deny a rift with Vardy this campaign
  • Vardy has claimed that Puel’s tactics do not suit him but is prepared to adapt

Nick Mashiter, Press Association Sport

Claude Puel insists Jamie Vardy’s makeover can make him a Premier League force for years.

The Frenchman has been forced to deny a rift with Vardy this season and benched him for the 3-1 defeat at Tottenham.

Vardy has claimed this season that Puel’s tactics do not suit him but said he was prepared to adapt.

The former England international is expected to return to the starting line up for Saturday’s visit of Crystal Palace and Puel feels Vardy appreciates what he is trying to do in prolonging his career.

He said: ‘From what I can see this week, I think he understands. He was very interested in the training session with good moves, good runs, good quality.

‘I would like him to continue this way. For me it’s the secret to continuing at a high level.

‘I have a lot of patience – I’m an optimist. All players continue to work and improve until the end career. If a player stops learning and improving it’s the beginning of the end for me.

‘Jamie has the potential to continue for a long time. He likes football and it’s important he continues to improve.

‘He has the quality to combine with his team-mates and to learn good moves in the opponent’s box.’

Vardy came off the bench to score in the defeat at Wembley, after missing a penalty with his first touch.

JAMIE VARDY’S RECORD THIS SEASON

Premier League: 22 appearances, eight goals, three assists

Carabao Cup: Two appearances

Total: 24 appearances, eight goals, three assists

He has netted eight goals in 24 games this season, taking his tally to 26 strikes in 16 months under Puel, more than any other Leicester player.

Puel added: ‘Jamie, he played a lot of games on counter-attack. When we play against a team deep on the pitch he can’t have this space, he needs to learn, like his teammates, different moves.

‘Against United he had two or three situations like this in far post but he must create this move for himself. It’s a different feeling, different things,

‘He’s learned. He was interested in training this week he scored a great goal against Tottenham in this move.’

Trafic d’armes allégué : Austin devra verser Rs 1,2 M aux Mohamed

[ad_1]

« The defendant’s article has made allegations of a serious nature against the plaintiffs. The defendant has not offered any apologies and has in fact left default although she had indicated that she would defend herself », souligne le juge David Chan Kan Choeng

« They have been falsely linked to arms trafficking and to the Russian mafia. The matter received wide publicity in the local press and media and was also taken up in foreign media », peut-on lire dans le jugement.

Pour Me Mohamed, « justice has to be done when I am still alive ». La Cour suprême a ainsi tranché en faveur des Mohamed, faisant ressortir dans le jugement que l’Américaine avait eu l’opportunité de se défendre mais qu’elle avait choisi de ne pas se présenter.

« The defendant has been given ample opportunity to defend herself and to put her case but she has failed to avail herself of such an opportunity. The article has tarnished their character and reputation and seriously affected their practice as barristers both locally and internationally. It has also reduced their chances of obtaining an international job. It is still causing them harm and prejudice », est-il écrit dans le jugement.

Pochettino says Spurs have had ‘nothing to prove’ in the absence of Harry Kane

‘We can win or lose with or without Harry’: Mauricio Pochettino says Spurs had ‘nothing to prove’ in the absence of star man Kane

  • Harry Kane returned to Tottenham first-team training on Wednesday morning
  • The striker has recovered from ankle ligament injury way ahead of schedule
  • Kane has missed the last seven games but Spurs coped well without him
  • The club won all four Premier League games to climb back into the title race

Press Association Reporter

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says his side have had nothing to prove in the way they have coped without star striker Harry Kane.

Kane has missed the last seven games with an ankle injury, but Spurs have, in the main, coped admirably in his absence.

They were knocked out of both domestic cup competitions in the space of four days, but won all four of their Premier League games to climb back into the title race and dismantled Borussia Dortmund 3-0 to put one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Spurs have relied heavily on Kane’s goals in the past, leading to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola once referring to them as the ‘Harry Kane team’, although the Spaniard insisted that was meant as a compliment to the striker rather than the interpretation they were a one-man team.

While questions were asked about how Spurs would fare in their main man’s absence, which should come to an end against Burnley on Saturday, Pochettino is adamant his side have never been over-reliant on Kane.

‘Only one person said that… he was over the moon, very happy after he beat Chelsea,’ Pochettino said, referring to Guardiola’s 2017 comment.

‘I never believed that (we were the Harry Kane team) and I’m never going to believe that.

‘I think Harry Kane is one of the most important players for us and he’s one of the best strikers in the world. But football is about the collective, the squad.

‘I don’t believe that we’ve proved anything without Harry Kane.

‘I always want to have Harry Kane with me. We can win or lose with or without Harry, with one player or another player.’

It really has been a team effort in Kane’s absence as Fernando Llorente and Son Heung-min in particular have produced seven goals between them.

Pochettino has always believed in the importance of cultivating a team ethic and gets frustrated when the focus is on individuals.

‘Sometimes there’s too much focus on, ‘without him, now the team is dead’, or, ‘with him, we’re going to win the World Cup’, Pochettino added of Kane.

‘It’s not like this. You need your team-mates, the team, the squad that’s training every day.

‘The players pushing to be better. There are a lot of aspects that are so important but the people only see who scores or who’s in goal saving a penalty.

‘Sometimes it’s very frustrating for us.

‘It’s so unfair that the perception is different to what we see.

‘We try always to provide the best balance to the squad – to make everyone happy. It’s so difficult to make everyone happy.’

Claudio Ranieri admits Javier Hernandez’s handball goal knocked the stuffing out of Fulham

Claudio Ranieri admits Javier Hernandez’s handball goal knocked the stuffing out of Fulham against West Ham

  • Javier Hernandez scored a controversial equaliser with his hand for West Ham
  • West Ham ended up prevailing with a 3-1 victory against Fulham on Friday night
  • Fulham boss Claudio Ranieri admitted the goal affected his side hugely

Andy Sims, Press Association Sport

Claudio Ranieri admitted Javier Hernandez’s punch knocked the stuffing out of Fulham after their 3-1 Premier League defeat at West Ham.

Mexico striker Hernandez cancelled out Ryan Babel’s third-minute opener for the visitors by jabbing the ball into the net with his hand at the far post.

Referee Lee Mason and his assistants missed the handball but video technology would have surely seen the goal disallowed, adding yet more weight to the ‘pro-VAR’ case.

That was scant consolation to Fulham boss Ranieri, though, as his struggling side crashed to further goals from Issa Diop and Michail Antonio.

Yet hardly any Fulham players appealed for handball, and Ranieri only saw the infingement when it was replayed on the big screen – to the dismay of the travelling fans.

‘It was a big pity with the goal, the referee was covered,’ said the Italian. ‘I hope with the VAR next season it will be better.

‘I didn’t see but I watched it on the screen. Maybe also the other players didn’t see it, and maybe of the West Ham players only Chicharito (Hernandez) knew the truth.

‘Now football is so fast and you have so many players in the box, for the referee it’s very difficult to watch everything, so VAR could be better.

‘It’s important in England to have VAR to help the referee.’

Another defeat left the Cottagers eight points adrift of safety with just 11 matches to go, and that bleak picture could look even worse after the weekend fixtures.

‘It will be a miracle,’ added Ranieri. ‘But we must fight together. If you fight you have one chance, if you don’t you won’t.’

West Ham recovered from a dodgy opening few minutes, during which Babel could have scored twice, to eventually run out comfortable winners and climb to ninth.

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini believes Hernandez's goal didn't decide the game

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini believes Hernandez’s goal didn’t decide the game

‘We never thought it would be an easy game, teams fighting for relegation give everything,’ said manager Manuel Pellegrini.

‘After those first 10 very strange minutes, we dominated the game. I think it was a good performance taking out those first 10 minutes.

‘From my position on the bench I really didn’t see (the handball). Also after seeing the TV, it is a handball but nobody complained from Fulham for very long, they were not sure.

‘I don’t think it was the goal that decided the game, we scored three and their goalkeeper saved four or five more chances for us to continue scoring.’
