Passenger Cap Easing Travel Chaos At Heathrow

According to the airport’s traffic report from July 2022, London Heathrow claims the passenger cap has helped the airport weather the travel turmoil.

According to the airport’s assessment, “the cap on departing passenger numbers has produced improvements to passenger experience,” including a decrease in the number of last-minute flight cancellations and an increase in the reliability with which passengers receive their bags.

A passenger cap was implemented at Heathrow on 12 July 2022, with a mandate to handle no more than 100,000 departing passengers a day until 11 September 2022. This came after weeks of travel disruption, during which people waited in long lines at airports.

As a result, Heathrow took flak from airlines all over the world for having to cut back on service to the UK’s busiest airport during the summer months.

Emirates has rejected requests from London Heathrow that it reduces flights to meet a restriction on passenger numbers during the summer travel period.

In response to airline complaints that low salaries make it difficult to hire ground employees, Heathrow Airport has stated that the people who handle baggage at airports “do not work for the airport itself and are independent businesses contracted to airlines.”

Heathrow’s Chief of Staff, Nigel Milton, claimed in a statement dated 21 July 2022 that “ground handling businesses have been trying to recruit and train skilled staff for months” but that they have been unable to do so because their airline customers are unwilling to pay market rates.

Moreover, six million passengers used the airport in July of 2022. For the three months of July and August in 2022, Heathrow predicts a total of 16 million passengers.

MARK LEATHER INSIGHT: Erik ten Hag cancelled day off to send message to Manchester United players

PHYSIO INSIGHT: I suspect Erik ten Hag called Manchester United’s players in for extra training on their day off out of embarrassment and a ploy to let the wider world know that their performance was unacceptable

  • Erik ten Hag sent out a firm message to his Manchester United players on Sunday
  • The United boss elected to cancel the team’s day off after the defeat to Brentford
  • Too many players are underperforming and some do not want to be there

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag furiously cancelled a day off for his players after their 4-0 drubbing against Brentford on Saturday.

He wanted them to run at least 13.8kilometres – the same amount the Bees outran them at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Below, former Liverpool and Bolton physio MARK LEATHER opens up to Sportsmail on the physical and mental challenges facing United stars after new boss ten Hag hauled them in for extra training.

Erik ten Hag sent a clear message to his players by cancelling the team's planned day off

Erik ten Hag sent a clear message to his players by cancelling the team’s planned day off

I’ve seen this at all levels of football where your day off is cancelled and you’re called in. A coach has decided that the players are training or sitting around watching X-rated video clips of the previous day.

In this instance, I suspect it’s borne out of embarrassment and a ploy to let the wider world, including United’s huge fanbase, know it’s unacceptable to play in the way they did. Something is going to be done about it.

He will feel let down by people perceived to be going through the motions, but that clearly won’t be all the players. One or two may have done more than their average against Brentford.

Do you split the team up when everybody’s in it together? I’ve never seen it. If you’ve played in a performance like that, you’re all in. You’ve lost as a team and you get punished as a team.

You run the risk of alienating certain players who don’t like this, that will definitely be the case. Players don’t like running at the best of times.

David de Gea, along with many of his team-mates, will not be happy with his performance

David de Gea, along with many of his team-mates, will not be happy with his performance

But would it make a massive difference in terms of physical recovery? No, it probably wouldn’t if there’s no midweek fixture.

It’s not just an old school 12-minute run around the pitch, it will be sensibly and scientifically done.

The thing to be cautious about is the climate. The silent killer in fatigue isn’t just the running itself or the additional work. It’s been extremely hot and humid, and it will have taken a wee bit more out of them than normal.

But this will be a culture shock to some of them. Certainly at that club, it won’t have been the norm for bringing them in and running them.

Then there’s the mental side of it: the stress, anxiety, worry and pressure. Possibly even being unhappy with themselves.

Too many of United’s players are underperforming and some of them do not want to be there

You can’t tell us certain players have been happy with the way they’ve performed over a long period of time, it’s common at every club. Somebody’s been in the doldrums for months.

Privately each one of them will be going through a crisis. The goalkeeper (David de Gea) won’t be happy with the way he performed in that game, neither will most of the players. If it keeps occurring then something is not quite right.

None of them are bad players but too many are not performing or going through a crisis. They can’t dig them out of this big hole they’ve fallen into.

Some of them are at the end of their tether and don’t want to be there. It would be a relief for some of them mentally that they’re out of the pressure pot. That’s not the new manager, it’s long-standing.

When you see perceived leaders crumbling, you know you’re in trouble. They can probably smell it themselves in the dressing-room. They know. Sometimes beating them with a stick isn’t the answer.

Most Powerful Passports in 2022

The post Most Powerful Passports in 2022 appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily.

Henley & Partners, a global citizenship and residence advisory firm in London, has produced a new quarterly report stating that holders of three Asian passports have more worldwide travel flexibility than any other country.

A record 193 destinations worldwide are now open to Japanese citizens without a visa or visa-on-demand, compared to Singapore and South Korea’s 192.

Because of this, Asian citizens are less likely than Europeans or Americans to use Covid-19’s travel flexibility.

It’s still less than a sixth of what it was before Covid, according to the latest International Air Transport Association (IATA) figures for Asia-Pacific (IATA).

According to the Henley Passport Index report, Europe and North America’s passport markets have recovered to 60% of their pre-crisis mobility levels.

A slew of European countries occupies the upper echelons of the rankings. In third place is Finland, followed by Italy and Luxembourg with an average of 189 destinations each.

In fifth place is a tie between Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden, while France and the United Kingdom round out the top six.

The United States, New Zealand, and Belgium appear at No. 7, along with Norway, Switzerland, and Belgium.

There are just 27 countries in the world that do not require Afghan citizens to obtain a visa in advance.

However, there are encouraging signs that lower-ranking passports are regaining some clouts as travel restrictions are eased.

According to a report, travel freedom for Indian passport holders has returned to pre-pandemic levels, with unrestricted access to 57 places worldwide (compared to just 23 destinations in 2020).

Russian passport holders are now more isolated from the rest of the world than ever because of the Ukraine invasion.

Despite Russia’s 50th place on the index, Russian people are essentially prevented from accessing many of the destinations on the index because of temporary restrictions and airspace closures, which the index does not take into account.

The best passports to hold in July 2022 are:

  1. Japan (193 destinations)
  2. Singapore, South Korea (192 destinations)
  3. Germany, Spain (190 destinations)
  4. Finland, Italy, and Luxembourg (189 destinations)
  5. Austria, Denmark, Netherlands, and Sweden (188 destinations)
  6. France, Ireland, Portugal, United Kingdom (187 destinations)
  7. Belgium, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, United States (186 destinations)
  8. Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Greece, and Malta (185 destinations)
  9. Hungary (183 destinations)
  10. Lithuania, Poland, and Slovakia (182 destinations)

The worst passports to hold in July 2022

Several countries worldwide have visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 40 or fewer countries. These include:

  1. North Korea (40 destinations)
  2. Nepal, Palestinian territory (38 destinations)
  3. Somalia (35 destinations)
  4. Yemen (34 destinations)
  5. Pakistan (32 destinations)
  6. Syria (30 destinations)
  7. Iraq (29 destinations)
  8. Afghanistan (27 destinations)

Among the many indexes published by financial firms to rank global passports, Henley & Partner’s ranking is one of the most comprehensive.

With the Henley Passport Index, 199 passports have been evaluated to determine how many visa-free locations their owners can visit. When new visa policies take effect throughout the year, they are continually updated in real-time.

All 193 United Nations member countries and six territories—ROC Taiwan, Macau (SAR China), Hong Kong (SAR China), Kosovo and the Vatican—are included in Arton Capital’s Passport Index. Other countries’ territories that have been annexed are not included.

The United Arab Emirates is ranked first in the 2022 index, scoring 171.
